This argument holds no water. If it doesn't suit your needs, why do you use it? It obviously suits your needs enough if you're willing to pay for it.
I disagree about the monopoly. Unless you need CMYK support (last I checked), GIMP is probably exactly what you're asking for. It does a lot...
"I only blame digital in as much as it is to blame for substandard performance."
Is this supposed to mean that digital allows "substandard" musicians easier access to recording facilities? Or, is "substandard" in reference to all the "digital snakeoil" being sold (or given away, in many cases)?
LOL. Nice way with words. :D:D
I don't have the experience to really chime in on this, but I'm happy for the digital age. If it wasn't for digital, I'd have spent as much on a shitty four track (and gotten lots of hiss and mud) as I've spent on my PC and assorted recording gadgets. My...
I can say from experience that it wont hurt it, but unless it's an old Fender Bassman it'll sound HORRIBLE!!!
My father bought me a solid state Fender bass amp years ago thinking it would be as nice as the Bassman he had when he was younger. Nope. I think you could plug your cable into a mud...
Oh, and DON'T EVER run your speaker out into a recorder, unless you have great homeowners insurance and like fire.
If your amp has a "Line Out" then that may work, although you'll still want some kind of speaker cabinet emulation.
I've used this to run "direct" as well, but with questionable...

Also, check out that dude's other posts, he writes some kick ass tunes.
That I can agree with. I think my "squashing" zealotry got the best of me there. :)
I like music that gets as soft as it does loud. Now I wish I had a turntable to listen to my Stevie Ray Vaughan albums. Again, I'm veering off topic...
I just wish I could hear why the uber expensive stuff...
This reminds me of another argument about cables.
Like the difference between Monster and other brands, where scientific test equipment shows differences so minute that a dog would not be able to hear them (between like gauges), but people still swear their guitars sound better with $150 ten...
Tascam preamps? Or old mixers? I'd have a ball with something like that, I really enjoy the electronic DIY stuff. :)
Any model numbers/series would be helpful if you can think of any.
Thanks, again!
Adobe has only themselves to blame for making the best product? I don't see that as justification for not wanting to pay their price. If anything, it only justifies Adobe's price.
And the masses were not providing music for themselves in response to the music industry's lack of vision...
Yeah, but I was hoping to find a little more detailed info. I read a thread on another site where someone apparently replaced a lot of components in an older model Tube MP, but their descriptions didn't match the models I have. I'm sure I could do the op amp and tube replacements no problem, I...
Is it really worth spending too much anyway, if you're going to master the final result into a squashed, dynamics-free, LOUD recording to "compete" with what's typically coming out today?
I kinda think the so called "loudness war" is making all that expensive equipment a waste of money.
...and...
I purchased a pair of these from Musicians Friend last year since I figured for $29/each it was worth checking them out. With my MXL V63M condenser they both are quiet, but with my SM57 and my Beta58 they are both as noisy as hell.
I've read where some people have modded these ART preamps to...
