Brand new setup; no sound from daw to monitors; using Reaper with Alesis io2

Setting up new studio; Reaper, Alesis io2 interface, WIndows 8; need settings help! For the past couple of years, I've been working whenever I could get a few minutes on a little home studio. Computer recording is new to me, but somehow I scrounged up enough equipment to start. Got a brand new...

For the past couple of years, I've been working whenever I could get a few minutes on a little home studio. Computer recording is new to me, but somehow I scrounged up enough equipment to start. Got a brand new pc (with Windows 8, unfortunately), an Alesis io2 interface, some Edirol powered...

Optomizing Windows 8 for recording; what's the procedure?

Thanks, Steenamaroo. I doubt I'll ever load the system to heavy. It'll almost always be only recording one track at a time. I appreciate your time; have a good day!

Optomizing Windows 8 for recording; what's the procedure?

Thanks, VomitHatSteve. That makes sense. I assumed I'd get rid of the extra baggage, but didn't know if there were more advanced tweaks that needed to be made. I plan this for this pc to be for recording only, and to hook it up to the Internet only long enough to download Reaper and maybe an...

Optomizing Windows 8 for recording; what's the procedure?

Hello Friends! (Ouch...I meant "optimize"!) I'm a newbie setting up a little home studio, and just ordered a Dell Inspiron (Amazon.com: Dell Inspiron 660s i660s-3850BK Desktop (Black): Computers & Accessories) 3.3ghz processor, 6 gb ram and 1tb, 7200 rpm hard drive loaded with Windows 8...

Is a Tascam 2488 really useful with a Computer DAW?

Thanks, Mr. Clean. I do need a lot of things more than a portastudio, to be sure. I think I have about $800 in it and it's still in the box. I wonder what I should ask for it and where would be the best place to find a buyer? I hope I don't have to take a big hit on it...

Is a Tascam 2488 really useful with a Computer DAW?

That's what I suspected, RAMI. I think I was hoping for an excuse to unpack the 2488 and gaze at all the sliders, haha. Plus, I bought the thing and never even got to plug it in...:( Thanks for your advice, RAMI!

Is a Tascam 2488 really useful with a Computer DAW?

Hey Folks, Several years ago, I bought a 2488...and it's still in the box! Now, I'm finally setting up a little studio and planning on buying a new computer dedicated to recording with reaper as my DAW. Now I wonder if I even need to ever unpack the 2488...what use or advantages (if any)...

Dell Inspiron 660s desktop...would this be a good choice for home recording?

Thanks, kcearl! So, what would you suggest for ram and cpu specs? Well, on a carpenter's budget? haha Almost 100% of the time, I'll be recording only one track at a time but I may end up with a lot of tracks and effects, so the mix will tend to get heavy. I really appreciate the education!

Dell Inspiron 660s desktop...would this be a good choice for home recording?

I hadn't even thought about SSD until it was mentioned here; I'm barely aware of it and have never owned a pc with SSD. Most likely, I'll not get SSD because of the additional expense. I do like the quiet, no heat operation, though. But I'll probably have the hum of a fan, haha. Thanks!

Dell Inspiron 660s desktop...would this be a good choice for home recording?

Thank you, Polarity. Everyone here seems to be very helpful, and I appreciate it. I had not even thought of SSD. I suppose there are no drawbacks in SSD for recording, correct? I'll keep learning and soon buy something so I can get started with some hands-on recording experience! Thanks again!

Desktop PC for new home studio; what do you suggest in the $500 range?

Hey MrWrenchy...ok...I'm learning: I need an i3 or above processor and a minimum of 4gb ram. I think I can find a deal on one with 8gb ram, so that's good. Is 1 tb good enough, or overkill...or even that important? By the way, I'll probably never track more than one at a time: me.
