Is that what the 2 S/PDIF / DATA connectors are? I don't doubt your word but as has been said the optic connector is rectangular whereas on the back there are 2 round connectors for the S/PDIF.

I think I'll probably just go to a shop or to A pawn shop and get one. I don't want ripped off. I could always just use Reason to make bass sounds but the bass patch is utter bollocks.

Has anyone made their own effects pedals or doctored their own ones to get a new sound? I found a website that had the schematics for different well known pedals but it's all hebrew to me.

If it sound's fine when you're not on distortion then it's gonna be something to do with feedback. Longer cable or turn down your amp.

I'd say the rent to buy option is the best way to go. If you decide after a while that guitar playing just isn't for you you haven't lost much. Don't shell out loads for your first guitar but then again don't buy crap because you will regret it. I'd say an hour a day practicing with a tab or...
