    about md8

I had my MD8 since August 2000. I've found it exteremely easy to use and it gets good sound quality. I like being able to record 8 tracks at once. With my band, no one has any time to sit down and do track by track recording. The MD can be set to four, two and one track modes also. As the number...

    Recital recording and microphones

This past december I recorded a jam for the Fender Discussion Page's Virginia memebers in Richmond using two SM-57s (all I had) going into a DBX 266XL compressor and then into a Yamaha MD8 and got very good results considering it was about a 45'W x 60'L room at a Moose Lodge. Not knowing where...

I picked up a couple of these a few weeks ago. My first condenser mics. I liked the results I got when using them for overhead/area mic'ing (2-5 feet away) on congas, dobro, guitar, group vocals and drums. I've used them for room mic'ing when recording band practice with ok results.

I've seen CD Player/MD Recorder units at Mars but no CDR or CDRW/MD units.

What file format does the MD-8 and MD-4s use when recording to DATA disks?

You can hook the stereo out to your sound card line in and record the wav file that way. I don't think there's a file that can be transfered.

    My first Minidisc recording

Here's a song I recorded on my MD-8 for a folk rock band I used to play with. The song is "Havre De Grace Song" by Callian's Dream. We did this one in three takes using 8 tracks. The bongos, bass, folk guitar, keyboard (accordian emulation) went first, the 3 vocals were second and the keyboard...

    MiniDisk Recording

Most soundcards have an 1/8" stereo jack for the line in. If that's the case, you want a Y cable that has 2 RCA plugs for the MD8 connection and a stereo 1/8" plug to connect to the soundcard. You'll need some kind of software to to convert the incoming signals to a wav file which can be burned...

    MD4s->midi->drum machine...How?

I've got an MD8 and I haven't figured out the midi synch stuff yet. Normally drums and/or bass are recorded first and then the other instruments. It's easier to have the other instruments follow the drum beat than the other way around. I'm curious though as to how to use the midi synching...

    pc recording

How fast is your computer? If it's too slow or doesn't have alot of ram, it may be hesitating while writing to a file.

    Band finally recorded on MD8

We did the all at once method because of the limited time we have available to practice. Just about everyone in the band has a day job and is married. The recordings came out fairly well considering the lack of processing or effects equipment. We're looking at this as a demo to get occassional...

    Band finally recorded on MD8

Saturday, I finally got my band on mini-disk. We play classic rock and some alternative covers. This first time recording session did not go smoothly at first, but all the problems were in the mics, levels, etc.. We used 2 SM-58s, 1 Audio Technica 105-HE and one unidentified mic for the vocals...

    AUX SEND HOOKUP,HELP US!!!!

I have a Yamaha MD8 and the aux sends can return back to the 9-10 or 11-12 channels. The VF-16 doesn't appear to have those extra inputs, but I suspect you run them back through one of the channel inputs. I read something about an ADAT interface to access the 9-16 tracks/channels in addition to...

    Starting from Scratch

I would get a Shure SM-57 ($80.00) to mic the guitar in addition to the onboard electronics on your Takemine. The SM-57 will add warmth to the Takemine and double as a second vocal mic as well. As far as vocal mics go, on the low end you could go with the dependable Shure SM-58 ($100.00). I'm...

    Help.... can't bounce .......

It's hard to tell what you might have missed over the internet. I haven't done the track bouce yet, so I'm guessing as usual about what you need to do. Have you checked to see if you've set the minidisk to record on 8 tracks? Mini Data disks can be programmed to record on 1, 2, 4 and 8 tracks...

    Connecting mixer to multitrack

I can help with the insert question. They're basically a jack in a mixer or Hard Disk Recorder that allows you to connect an effects or signal processor into a channel via a 1/4" TRS "Y" 1/4" plug cabled to two 1/4" TS phone plugs. The signal goes in and out of the TRS connector. See the...

    adapter cables

You're very welcome. At Guitar Center, they have a table in the recording section that has used or discontinued items. You might find a good deal in the pile. Another place that might have something would be Action Music at the intersection of Sycamore and Williamsburg Blvd. and West St. It's...

    squier 4 combo

It's an entry level 80 watt PA system. Actually the tracks are called channels. You can plug mics into it of course for vocals. I've plugged acoustic guitars with an EQ and Compressor straight into it with ok results, or just micing the acoustic guitar itself sounds nice too. I like to use both...

hooking up fx unit to MD8

A TRS Y Cable seminar? .....hmmmm.....ok! Shoot! I just used one for the first time last night with an old Boss GE-10 Graphic EQ, so here goes my "expert" description. The TRS Y cable consists of a TRS plug, and two normal TS 1/4" plugs (Tip and Sleeve) which are labeled Tip or Send, and Ring or...

    adapter cables

There's several large stores in the DC area you can go to inquire about or purchase a preamp or mixing board. One is Mars Music in Springfield at the Springfield Shopping Center, next door to Giant Food. Another is Guitar Center at Seven Corners at the intersection of Wilson Blvd. and Arlington...
