Has anyone made their own rack?

I made mine from basic pine 1x12's and used 1x2's instead of metal rack rails. I use wood screws and rubber plumbing washers to screw in the gear. A light coat of varnish from a spray can and I'm good to go. I made four of them; a five space, 2 seven space, and a 12 space slanted rack on...

    Begining home studio

DON'T DO IT ALAN! Step AWAY from the recorder! (In a voice like someone's dad); You don't want to end up like me do you? Seriously, welcome aboard. Your life will never be the same. (insert sympathetically evil laugh; ha ha ha ha ha...) Well, three years ago I was in your shoes...the Zoom...

    Diffs between C1 and B1

I have both of these in my arsenal. Pundits' post was right on the money. Great info! In down and dirty layman’s terms; C1 is brighter, harsher, etc. Use it where you want brightness. B1 is warmer, darker... you get the idea. Real life example; Just did a lead vox track with a C1, thought it...

What recording magazines do you read?

...ones with pictures of naked speakers.....drool.....ummm, and oh yea, same as everybody else. Depends on the articles that month, if they're relevant to me at the time. I do think I learn more from the BBS's though...

    Buying new equipment... Addiction???

Hi, my name is Mark and I'm a gear-a-holic. (chorus with echo and verb);"Hi Mark..." I've been "sober" (meaning; haven't bought any gear) for four days now. I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out.... My biggest problem (other than what my 17 psychiatrists call gearalogical...

    Time Keeping?

I was running sound for a band recently and the drummer, who has played in a band with a fair amout of commercial success, was excusing his poor timekeeping by saying "it's all about the groove, man...". I smiled and politely excused myself... I too am a drummer. I do a fair amout of sessions...

    Marshall Microphones: Which one?

Mars used to have a mic room where you could listen to several mics side by side to compare. We don't have a Guitar Center in Kansas City so I don't know if they have something like this or not. That would be a great place to start though. I personally like to HEAR a mic BEFORE I buy it. That's...

Advice plse: ART Tube channel pre

This was the first mic pre I owned. When I was greener than the grass on the other side of the fence, I thought it was great. As I turned a little more brown (from BS and burnout!), I began to see its limitations (and hear its noise...a lot of noise). I recently sold it and will never own...

got my RNC's, thoughts on stereo eq?

In the attempt to continue to upgrade my gear, I recently got two RNC's since they seem to be the rage (and their affordable). Now I think it's time to upgrade to a stereo (or perhaps dual mono?) eq unit. Main use will be processing individual tracks once their in, and then on the main stereo...

Why can't all drummers tune their drums?

Here's my 2 cents; save yourself a tremendous amount of time and frustration and buy a drum dial (the kind that measures the tension on the head-not the lug screws). They sell for about $50.00 now. You can tune a set of drums quickly (5 min. per drum, including the kick) and they will be as...

    Bass Drum Head

Aquarian Superkick II, it's the best sounding head I've found, and I've tried a lot of them. Great versitility depending on muffling, as well. I use them on both my kits.

What is a good cymbal cleaner?

You might check with your local drum shop. Explorers Percussion in K.C. has a high tech machine that does all the dirty work for you. They come out looking like new and at $5-$7 per cymbal it's the only way to go!

    premier vs. Tama

Well, I'm certainly not an expert on either of the two kits you mentioned but since no one else has responded, here's my 2 cents: I currently play Sonor's and when I make my next trade it will be to Premiers. I looked at both when I got this set, but the store was discontinuing the Sonor line...

Best album in terms of lyrics or allround musically.

Human Radio put out thier one and only CD in 1990, self-titled "Human Radio". Ross Rice is the main writer. They seem to be from Nashville, and I sincerely wish they would have had some commercial success. This would get my #1 vote.

    most hated song

Gimme three notes of "Gimme Three Steps" and I'll be headin towards the door. Wipe Out is one that (most of) us drummers really hate too.

    Legal/Trademark can of worms question

When I asked this question, I didn't even think about "Pink Cadillac", "Mercedes Boy", or "Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz" (whatever the title to that one is), or other songs such as these...duh... Wouldn't ya know I don't listen to Puff Daddy... who would have thought?

Top BILLBOARD hits of all time?

Lyrics World has a list of the top songs by year. I don't know if it's consistant with the Billboard list but it's a good start. The link is; www.summer.com.br/~pfilho/html/top1/index.html Let us know what you come up with to cover. Mark

    Legal/Trademark can of worms question

Let's say that I want to write a lyric line such as "I pulled into McDonalds, to get a bag of fries..." Since company names like "McDonalds" are trademarked, may I use it or not? To further complicate matters, let's assume that I have no intention of selling this song, it's only a promotional...
