I've tried Songwriter LE, it's free but it's limited. What I think best now is Garagaband for IOS. It's just $4.99. What's best about it is we can export it to Garagaband project files for further touch up. I don't use Garagaband for Mac, but fortunately Logic Pro can open the .band file...
