Ummmm ... figure-8s are suppose to have the most proximity effect of any of the polar patterns.

What do you use for a mic cabinet?

I keep mine in small bubble-wrap bags in a canvas suitcase that I travel to jobs with. I just got the idea of maybe also putting the custom wind foam on the mics for cushioning from shock.

Microphone humming when connected to preamp- grounding problem?

I just today had something similar. I have a minidisc plugged into AC (rather than battery operated) and when I touch the body of the mic there is a noticeable hum in the audio. Not sure yet but I'm thinking that this may have to do with in being connected to AC. I did notice that if I...

Just want to add that a couple times I've folded down XY stereo to money for recordings of instruments, and have found that the recordings sounded much better in stereo.

I have heard elsewhere that the NT2000 and the NT2-A were smoothed out on the top as compared to the NT1000. A buddy of mine had the NT1-A and we both agreed it sounded a little raspy on vocals so my buddy got rid of it.

rode nt1000 or audio technica at4050/ae5400

I haven't used those AT mics but I used to have the NT1000 and would not recommend it. I found it a tad on the harsh side for voice and got rid of it quick.

    Vocal mic for "thin" voice

I record a variety of vocalists and it seems I have more of the females who are sibilant than the guys. I have used a de-esser plug-in but have not been real happy with it overall; by the time you get the essing down, it starts hitting on the other highs, making it kind of flat sounding. I'm...
