    Beatles Cover Thread!

Like I'd mind inheriting a wad of cash from a rich uncle I'd never heard of. Go for it! Don edit: Could you possibly send me a .wav of the nylon string part, if it's not too much trouble?

    Beatles Cover Thread!

A (not very) long, winding song: http://d275360.u23.simplenet.com/DonF-long+winding.mp3 I tried to go off the leash a bit this time. How'd I do? Don

I'm going to make ONE metalhead happy

My wife's brother-in-law has a band, called Mechanization. Their debut album, Holon, was released at the beginning of November. I think it's pretty dang good, so I'd like to show my support by buying a copy. But there's one problem: Metal is just not my cup of tea, so I probably wouldn't listen...

    Question about sound cards

*raises hand* The 1010LT is a very popular choice among Linux audio users, as is the 1010. Be sure to check http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main before making a purchase. Or, if you decide to go the FireWire route, look at http://www.ffado.org/?q=devicesupport/list. Don

    Question about sound cards

Yes, that's the one. I don't think you can do any better in that price range. Cheers, Don

    Question about sound cards

The 1010 will definitely be a big step up from your factory sound card. If you're not stuck on using a PCI-based interface, you could go with something like a Firepod (firewire-based) for about the same amount of money. I use a 1010LT, which uses many of the same parts internally as the 1010...

    what is an interface?

You, me, and many others, I'd bet.

    what is an interface?

An audio interface (sometimes called a sound card) gets audio from the outside world into your computer. Many audio interfaces (especially low-end ones) contain analog-to-digital (AD) and digital-to-analog (DA) converters, but some require external conversion. Many computer motherboards have a...

    Beatles Cover Thread!

I was actually trying hard not to make it a simple mimic of the original. But the original is practically burned into my brain -- it's hard for me to do anything different. Glad you enjoyed it, anyway! Don

    Favorite piano action

I'm happy with the action on my Roland HP335. After several years of very heavy use, the weights are breaking every so often, but they're not too hard to fix.

MIDI help - Pipe Organ project!!!

    Need some calibration help

I agree wholeheartedly! But I figured he was broke after purchasing the MRL tape. Do inexpensive DVM's have pretty good frequency response these days? I think my old one (over 20 years old and going strong) is down about 3dB at 10kHz. Don

MIDI help - Pipe Organ project!!!

Yes, I can see how that unit could do what you need. Is 500ma at 35V adequate for your valves? I'm not too familiar with VSTi, but that sounds like it could be a good way to go. You'd translate a MIDI note input to a combination of notes on the output, depending on the patch, right?

MIDI help - Pipe Organ project!!!

No, I don't have anything specific in mind. Do you already have a way to drive the pipes via MIDI? (I.e, is your "midi decoder" an actual device, or just hypothetical?) If not, I think you're going to need to design and build some kind of custom MIDI receiver/pipe driver anyway. The program...
