Did you end up getting the laptop/interface/cubase DAW? My comment comes late I know, but I started out 12 years ago as an analog cassette multitracker. Then upgraded to digital standalone recorders. Now I use a mix of all of them. I own a Tascam 2488MKII, where I record my 8 tracks of drums...

Just installed and tested the Fast track pro. Had some crackle and noise issues at first, but after playing around with buffers, got that fixed. Happy camper here; first time I recorded using an interface:D My system is a Vista Home basic SP1 32 bit. Thanks for the help guys. Cheers!

NY, you're right, I could just use the Tascam; problem is, I have it setup permanently where I record drums. The laptop is used as a mobile studio setup. I know using the Tascam would be the easy way out, but I refuse to accept I just threw away $800 on a new laptop; that's why I want the...

As I got to know in the last thread I posted, I'm now on the lookout for a new USB interface. Anyone has any experience with this rig? If not, at least I would like to know what you think of an US122L interface working on a Vista enviroment. Cheers!

I should try using rubber bands and see if it makes a difference. For the time being, the sound I'm getting is what I aimed for:)

Good Ideas guys! I've too "shortened" mic stands by cutting some tubing off, and yeah, it works great:) I've found a better way (at least to me;)) to mic kick drums though, check it out.
