zvex amps... this thing is tiny

I'd rather have a 1/4 watt amp that sounds great than a 400,000 watt amp that sounds like shit. For the most part, for recording, less is more. You are trying to push output tubes and you cant much do that with a 100 watt amp without blowing down the walls. You DEF dont want to push a solid...

Check out the clips of this little 5 watt...

www.ampmaker.com check out the sound clips of the all-dimed-out 5 watt amp (not the 18 watter) Very much an AC/DC type of thing, very clear and defined yet with some good overtones and distortion. Anyone with the know-how want to build one for me? Talk to me.

    I tested HRM-10 vs Royer 121

Dont count on that transformer to do the trick. Maybe open it up SOME, but dont go looking for Royer quality cause its not happening. The Royer is hand made and hand tuned and lots of time was spent on design and its quality all the way through. You can feel the thing compared to the chinese...

    Clear pickups

I've been looking at a Les Paul Menace that has the clear ones too.

    LISTEN..Modded Oktava 319 vs. standard ShureKSM 32

Not yours... the original poster. Yours make more sense because they are fully modded mics and give someone a clear picture.

    LISTEN..Modded Oktava 319 vs. standard ShureKSM 32

To be honest, I think its a shitty comparison, because... you didnt truly mod the mic. I cant understand for the life of me why anyone would only go halfway with modifying the mic and then post samples against another mic. Now people will hear the mic in its current state, and see thats its...

Have you heard the Mesa Stiletto Stage II?

I got to mess with a Stiletto Ace. Man that thing is the business. I've never actually heard that exact tone come out from an amp just sitting there. Magical pretty distortion. Agressive, yet smooth, yet clear. Its really mojo with a Les Paul w/500's in it.

    Is color bad on vocals?

OF course its not bad, depending. Why do you think eveyrone wants those old Neves and Neve clones for vocals? They are some of the dirtiest preamps around and people pay BIG money for it. They arent a "clean" preamp.

Les Paul Menace vs. an Epi Les Paul

I dont even know what a tenon is or why I'm checking it. What is an MIK Lester? And why would I want something that needed an immediate fret job? Seems counter productive. I'll do a search though.

    Hardware vs Software Amp Modelers?

The Fractal Audio piece kills everything I've ever heard in sims. Go check it out and listen to the DIRECT samples, as in, no cabinet, no mic, just direct into a computer. You can hear speakers moving air. Its scary. 10 years from now we wont need amps anymore, and the Fractal is where its...

Les Paul Menace vs. an Epi Les Paul

Some of you know I've been looking at Epi Les Pauls, but I found a real Les Paul, but its the Menace version, all black without any kind ofbindings or cosmetic niceties except for some weird tribal grooving and a brass fist inlay at the 5th fret, for $625 locally with hard shell case and its in...

Are the newer Epi Les Pauls decent guitars?

I fully expect to have to change the pickups (any suggestions for a good clear Chevelle dirty tone?) and maybe the tuning keys pretty soon too, but I'm wanting a Paul without a Paul price tag. I'm also looking at the LTD EC-1000 with Duncans in it. Any words of advice?

Is this piece the new direction of amp simulation?

Saying stupid shit often comes back to smack us in the face at some point. Did you listen to all the samples before you posted? I seriously think that in 6-8 years it will be so good it will become the norm rather than the cheap option.

Is this piece the new direction of amp simulation?

From then samples, I think they sound very polished. Its ahrd to get so many tones so quickly from one amp. I rather like it, and I'm thinking that most of us wouldnt know and couldnt tell the difference in a mix.

Is this piece the new direction of amp simulation?

Man I'm listening to these clips and I'm quite surprised. This is no cheap POD... Quite the contrary, I heard they are like $1500. www.fractalaudio.com listen to some of the clips. Very clear and sparkly, some of them. The Vox one sounds cool. The boutique one does, as does the recto one...

    Which mic?

Directly from my email: Burn-in is a period where the mic is left connected to the phantom power supply to allow the components to age, settle in to their best sonic performance and weed out the 1% of FETs that develop early life noise. Large mic manufacturers just build, skip burn-in and ship...

    Sterling Audio

Supposedly the Sterling and the Groove Tubes Convertible are the same mic. I got to try one on guitar cabs at Michael Wagners place, who obviously knows guitar sounds, and with about 15 mics we tried that day, the GT was in the top 5 of our favorites, following right behind a Royer 122V...

    Ovtava Mic

They are basically standard switches for high pass and a pad I think. They muck up the sound because its a cheap circuit. You can take it apart and bypass the wiring and it makes the mic sound much more open. Seriously, check out ocktavamod.com, see which one you have, and talk to him about...
