The main benefit is the extra $10 for Shure.

    Your acoustic recording setup

Of course none of these are bad answers. For bedroom recordings like this, I like simplicity. One good small condenser mic. I have an AT4041 that I really like for recording a quality steel string acoustic. I agree that "pointing at the 12th fret" is oft-repeated and highly overrated...

    Carvin acoustics?

About Breedloves: in your price range they will have solid tops but ply backs and sides. For about $1000 they have solid tops and backs and ply sides. The really nice ones are over $2k http://elderly.com/brand/BREEDLOVE.html Not that the $500 Breedloves don't sound good; they do. I also...

I am going to get a half stack, need expert opinions

Have you tried playing your present amp through one of your friends' half stacks? Maybe you don't need a head.

check out my new harp mic

A little strange; weak on the highs and low-mids. But I suppose it could be useful if you're going for an old-timey sound.

check out my new harp mic

I picked up this excellent little handmade harp mic on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290044080170&rd=1&rd=1 The basic theory is the same as the "bullet" mics. I like the small size and the handle and the fact that it's...

    Les Paul for rockabilly?

I realize that there it takes a great deal of skill to copy the sounds of yesteryear really well. But it seems to me that unless one is in a pure cover band, it makes sense to apply different sounds to the classic music.

    Taylors vs Martins

This is an important point. It also helps to play the guitar facing a wall about 3 feet in front of you.

Live Vox/Guitar: Keeping Guitar out of the Vocal Mic

I agree that the best solution is not to fight nature, and set things up to get the best sound you can without splitting anything. :D Many singer-songwriters feel this way. Paul Simon is a good example. There is something about playing the guitar and singing your song all together that...

    Acoustic covers. Please critique.

I'm in love. Vocal sound is great; although I might try boosting around 5K just a tad to help the articulation (it's hard to make out the consonants). The tempo is not an issue for me. I agree with David K that the guitar is repetitive; just add a couple bass runs and/or hammer ons up top...

Tell me what is wrong with this mix !!

I listened to this through my crappy Yamaha computer speakers (everything set neutral), not cranked. Since you are using it as promo material it should work that way (and it does). I like it. I agree with the idea of a little more definition to the bass. I do NOT agree that the lead vocal is...

    LDC that will kill nasily-vocals?

in addition to all the above... Do you have allergies? You might want to see a doctor about that. Also blow your nose before you sing (no kidding). If all else fails, snort coke repeatedly until your nose falls off.

Are the newer Epi Les Pauls decent guitars?

For the most part the comparison should be between a Mexican Strat and an Epi Les Paul. The studio and standard series are more expensive than the Squires.

Acoustic guitar pickup - need suggestions

I would consider a Seagull acoustic/electric. You can get a new S series model in the 400-500 range. Amplified or not it's a lot nicer than an Aria. http://www.seagullguitars.com/intro.htm http://www.gguitars.com/sea06193132.html

    More control on vocals reflections?!

Yes. Maybe you could just turn it around, so that the vocalist is singing into the center of the room.

    2 acoustics

I would experiment with various placements including all of those suggested so far. As I understand it you have two mics for two vocals and two guitars. If that's right you can pretty much forget about separation. I might also try one high and one low or one near and one far.
