I have both. I bought the DBX used for 60$ so I though what the hell. The DMP is just nice clean gain. The DBX is a pre with a cheap tube gain so they have advertise a cheap tube pre. The DBX on vocals is horrific. It isn't warm. Get the DMP all the way.

I used the exact same setup for my studio. Markertek had the best price on Canare Star Quad (though I bought 300 feet), and Partsexpress has the best on the connectors (buy 10 or more for better price)

I have a pair of STO-2's running though a Sebatron VMP-2000e and they sound great. I recently recorded a 6 foot Samick with this setup with the mics about a foot the the left and right of the piano player (their perpective) and they sounded really detailed.
