    Blood Sugar Sex Magic Vox

I believe it is an SM7 At least that is what I have heard and you can also kinda see in on the Give it Away Video. Also one of my favorite albums. Really changed my music tastes in High School.

    Studio Projects VTB-1 vs DMP3

DMP - 2 channels, lots of gain, pretty clean - would use on the acoustic stuff VTB-1 1 channel, lots of gain, pretty colored - would use for you bluesy vocals Sounds to me like you want both.

    NTK Sizzle Shizzle

Ntk I don't know if you already do this or not but when I use the NTK on our singer who is also very silibant, I make sure that the mic is above the bridge of his nose and slightly tilted down then make sure that he sings strait passed the mic, not into it. This cuts down on the harshness for...

Is Rock Wool & Rigid FiberGlass Safe??

All I know is when I used to work with an electrician running wires in an attic with fiberglass batts I would cough for the rest of the day from inhaling that crap. It sure didn't make me feel good health hazard or not Also, covering the fiberglass with the weedblock (which is very thin) was an...

Is Rock Wool & Rigid FiberGlass Safe??

"Depending on the size and dimensions of the fibers measured in the workplace, you will find different biological effects on humans. Smaller fibers, generally less than 3.5 microns in length, can be inhaled and deposited in the lung where they can accumulate and cause fibrotic changes...

    DBX mini-pre or M-audio DMP3

I have both. I bought the DBX used for 60$ so I though what the hell. The DMP is just nice clean gain. The DBX is a pre with a cheap tube gain so they have advertise a cheap tube pre. The DBX on vocals is horrific. It isn't warm. Get the DMP all the way.

dbx mini pre as a bass preamp

If you like the way it sounds.............yes If you do not like the way it sounds........no Sure there are better bass di's but sometimes we need to make do with what we have. Check out the SansAmp DI if you are interested in another one. Good luck

Toft ATC-2 & GT Brick or Sebatron

I was very interested in the Toft as well. I went with the Sebatron because I wanted a tube preamp. I do feel that the -30pad leaves me needing more gain sometimes, but as someone posted before, you can just daisy chain them. I bought mine for 999$ new. (No VU's)

Tascam 2488 vs. Roland vs2000 vs. Korg D16000mk2 vs. Yamaha d16g vs Akai DPS 16

I wouldn't stress about it. I put out two records recording witha VS-1880, 3 sm57's, and a pair of AGK C1000S's and it sounded fine. Does it sound like pro studio? No? Did it win any awards? No. Could it have sounded better? Yes. But the main thing was I enjoyed recording it. I took my time. I...

    AKG C414 on acoustic guitar

Akg I like the C414 in omni for acoustic guitar about 18" away from the soundhole, though my room is well treated. Cardoid always works well also. But anyway, I could be wrong but the E string on an acoustic resonates at around 82 hz, so I believe the 150hz lo cut might not be so good. I...

Tascam 2488 vs. Roland vs2000 vs. Korg D16000mk2 vs. Yamaha d16g vs Akai DPS 16

All in ones I have used the Roland VS stuff and can attest they have decent setups. I found the contols very easy to use and the sound quality very good. The pre's are ok, nothing spectacular. The newer ones know all have the option for using a monitor which is sweet. The editing and backgound...

    Source for cables and connectors?

I used the exact same setup for my studio. Markertek had the best price on Canare Star Quad (though I bought 300 feet), and Partsexpress has the best on the connectors (buy 10 or more for better price)

    Small Diaphragm Condenser Pairs

I have a pair of STO-2's running though a Sebatron VMP-2000e and they sound great. I recently recorded a 6 foot Samick with this setup with the mics about a foot the the left and right of the piano player (their perpective) and they sounded really detailed.

    At4047 or AKG C414 B-XLS

I am torn between these two.... I can get a B stock of the 4047 for around 420$ or the C414 B-XLS for 599$. I am looking for a different flavor than my NTK. It will mostly be used for vocals and guitar, but also piano or drums if needs be. My preamps are a Tampa and a Sebatron VMP2000 Any help...

    Building vocal booth in basement

My basement is currently in the rough stage and I am currently pulling wire for a project studio. I am mainly interested in building a vocal booth that can be used for acoustic guitar, strings maybe, and vocals. I have framed the corner of the room to be about 5 X 6 X 7.5 high. Two sides...

    Studio Projects C4 on piano

Has anyone ever tried the Studio Projects C4 on a grand piano. I know the description for the mic lists it as an application but I wondering if anyone has actually tried them?
