Who mixes down to a 2trk master deck?

this makes me think... I've been doing all my mixdowns from the otari to a Panasonic pro dat deck. Anyone else here mix down to dat? Since I have no basis for comparison, what's the usual characteristic differences between mixing to dat and mixing to say a 1/2" or 1/4" two-track?

    Best CDs of 2003 (production)

i think that i bought less than five albums all year (mostly due to the fact that I was unemployed for most of it)... But the album that tops my list hands down is Alien Ant Farm - "truANT". Produced by Robert and Dean DeLeo (yes, of Stone Temple Pilots), this album is just amazingly textured...

    Bass Amp for Guitarist

Just my two cents... I own a Crate BX100, and have used it for everything from outdoors gigging, indoors gigging (both with and without a PA system to DI into), home pc recording and studio tracking, and the amp does pretty alright. I like it a lot for being a lower end amp, really. It's no...

    OLP Stuart Spector NS bass

I'm aware of the fact that the olps are beginner basses, basically... I'm not a beginner (nor am i a bass guru), but I just want something aside from my semi-generic jazz bass and my ibanez iceman. something preferably with 22 or 24 frets, and has a more varied tone. From what i've...

    Favorite Bass Riffs

Here's my list... Primus - "DMV", "Jerry Was A Racecar Driver", "Tommy The Cat", "Laquerhead", "John The Fisherman", and probably others i'm forgetting about. Les Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade - "Buzzards Of Green Hill", "Whamola" (lol), "Ding Dang" Stu Hamm - "Flow My Tears", "Dangerous...

    Laney bass cab

Alright.. I've had a Laney bass cabinet for a few years now, and it contains two EV 10" speakers and one Peavey Black Widow 18" speaker. But so far, I can't find any information on the cab anywhere online. I'm sure it didn't come with the speakers that are in them currently, but I can't even...

    Practice lockout question

lol yes... I could be living in Corning. However, I did live in Red Bluff for 7 or 8 months haha... Anyways... Yeah, I need to figure out what's up with the permits and what codes i'd have to be aware of and all that crap... So I'm gonna' discuss it with a few likeminded friends of mine...

    Practice lockout question

Thanks Rick and Steve. Very good advice. First to Rick. I realize that this is a rather big project, but I do not plan on building from the ground up. There are a LOT of emptied out warehouses and other commercial buildings (some even outside of city limits!), and I'm sure they wouldn't be...

    I keep breaking strings!!!

also, if you hammer on the strings really hard for a decent amount of time close to the bridge (where there's less give to the string on impact), then you'll snap strings so much more often. Especially with those thick-ass Dunlops you're using lol

Bass amp help --- new to bass

for the record, here's my experience... I used to have an old late 70s Sunn Concert Bass head with a Laney cab (1x18, 2x10 in one cab), and it was pretty damn loud, really.. Obviously, the Sunn head has no DI out. After a while, I aquired a Crate BX100 combo, 15" speaker, eq, DI out. It...

    OLP Stuart Spector NS bass

okay... I was just lookin' around, and I just discovered this. OLP is now manufacturing Stuart Spector Designs licensed Spector NS copies under the OLP brand... check it out here... I think that instead of buying myself a nice conklin or schecter, i'm gonna' buy myself a 4 and 5 string OLP...

    my handheld tape recorder fetish

hahaha... crappy recordings of handheld tape recorders? check this out... My current band, Redeye Mind Trick (obviously, the tracks labeled as such) were practicing in the studio, and we didn't feel like micing up through the console, so we had a sony handheld tape recorder... This oughtta...

    Musicians Wanted!

This is turning into one hell of an interesting thread... When the project's finished, i'd be interested in hearing it. And if any bass work is needed, i'd be willing to pitch in. I've got a project studio that's using a completely analog setup minus a few outboard pieces (oldschool TAC...

    Practice lockout question

I'm thinking about going about and building a lockout facility here in my hometown. There's nothing of the sort in the area, and I think that it'd be rather profitable, not to mention a lot of fun, and a good way to contribute to the scene here. I was wondering if anyone here has built or...

    Inexpensive yet decent 24-fret bass?

I've recently gotten into Stuart Hamm... This being the prime reason why i ask... Along with Jaco and Les, yes... I'm finding myself wanting to learn these songs to get better at this stuff, and it's rather difficult when you can't play a lot of the material lol...
