I just got my 5050 up and running and it sounds awesome. I will agree with the bottom end being punchy. Also the layout is great. Wish I had a remote though.

Success! The Otari worked like a dream last night. Deep Troat was right; pin 3 hot, pin 1 sheild, pin 2 no connection. What a great sounding deck! That for all your help everyone. :)

Are you sure it's the hub and not the reel table that is wobbly? I had similar problems. I did finally fix it but it wasn't easy. Check out this link for more. http://www.vaporpark.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=5160

Update: I have it on good counsel that the 5050 8 track is wired PIN 3 HOT/PIN 1 SHEILD. I'll keep you posted after I redo the cables.

This is a weird problem. I just made some XLR to RCA output cables to use my Otari MX5050 MKIII 8 track with my M308B board. When sent the test tone from the Otari to the tape inputs I get the test tone coming through the stereo masters even when the input rail is completely off. Interestingly...

You might want to try another mike and cable. You never know.

Your original problem might have been Sticky Shed Syndrome. Are you using Fresh tape?

That thing is a piece of crap! Save yourself now and send that deck to me immediately before you harm yourself. You don't know what you're getting into. Analog is very addictive and should come with warnings on the packaging like cigarettes. I repeat, send me that deck and get yourself a DAW now...

I agree. I actually think the bottom end sounds better at 7 1/2 on my 3440. But then again, I did play in a very loud band for too long. I have to get my wife to check all my mixes for any, shall we say, weirdness, in the top end. ;) :rolleyes: ;)

Yeah, baking is the answer for sticky tape. Ghost has a great post with all the info you need. You should be able to find it with a search.
