    Wondering if this will work

Appreciate the responses guys. I did a little experimenting with the mode switch on the unit last night. it seems that if you switch it to "midi thru mode", then the input from all 8 channels are directed back out to all 8 channels, so I'm guessing that when i wanted to trigger giga on the...

    Wondering if this will work

Thanks, Don. Yep, I see where it talks about that in the manual - I've just never used it in that mode so I'm not quite sure how that works. I guess some experimentation is in order. I always hate it when I buy things that theoretically should work together, thinking I have everything planned...

Both bidders established their profile on March 18, and then started bidding on this...hmmmm.

    Wondering if this will work

The attached diagram shows my current midi setup of several devices which communicate with my PC using a midisport 8x8 usb interface. Currently I run both Sonar and GigaStudio on this PC, but have considered adding a second PC to my setup and running Gigastudio separately. I have an audiophile...

    A little acoustic ditty

Absolutely beautiful! Reminds me of the old Emerson, Lake and Palmer stuff for some reason. Or Kansas perhaps... Has a very dramatic vibe to it. Great Job.

    best moniters for 350

For that price, you might also look at the Alesis M1 Active MKIIs. They have six and a half inch woofers in 'em. I have the older version of those and they work great for me.

    M-Audio DMP3 or Studio Projects VTB1?

I've had a new VTB-1 sitting on my desk for about two weeks now. Wife hasn't noticed yet...I'm wondering if I'd be pushing my luck to get a second one and one of those rack mount trays that hold two of em side by side :D

    automation in sonar

Yes - that's what a master bus is, and if you're not using one then you're making things harder than they need to be. Not sure if Sonar 2.2 is exactly the same, but here's how you do a master bus in Sonar 4: Right click in the console view and select "New stereo bus". Give it the name...

    Wind screen Vs. pop filter

Windscreens don't seem to have a lot of effect, at least not for filtering the 'plosives out in the studio. It is a good idea to use an actual pop filter for vocals, particularly when using a condensor microphone. Not only does it filter pops, it also helps keep moisture from the singers mouth...

    automation in sonar

This is referring to dbu, the actual sound pressure level in the room. The way to know the level you are monitoring at is by measuring it with a sound pressure level meter. 85dbu is a generally accepted standard for a good level to monitor/mix at.

Actually, you know what? Why don't you start by reading this: http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm This is probably the best source of beginner info on this subject on the net. Once you've read this, hopefully you'll have a much clearer understanding of what you might be able to expect if...

Here is a lttle ditty I threw down lastnight...

Great song! I agree with the others who say the vocals sound great - they work very well for this sort of music. The lyrics do seem a bit wordy perhaps, but you said you were aware of that and reworking them. Otherwise, everything sounds excellent - good job!

My new closet studio - Pictures ~

Yep, I can sympathize with you about the "keeping the wife happy" point! Yes, doing something like the pictures on Ethan's site would help. It will also help to keep your PC components as quiet as possible to start with. Look at the power supplies and fans from www.pcpowerandcooling.com...

My new closet studio - Pictures ~

Not that a laptop can't work, but you can usually get more performance with a lower price using a desktop, plus desktops are cheaper and easier to upgrade down the line. Noise is a problem, and laptops are usually quieter, but perhaps in your case you could consider putting your computer...

I'm getting a room of my own!

Hey, here's an idea for you (rough drawing, not to scale). Using your allocated 14x14 space, this plan would give you a 14x10 main studio room, a 4x6 vocal booth, and two small closets. You could consider porting some extra ventilation into one of the closets and use it for your computer(s) to...
