If you're only recording yourself it's probably best to just have one single room and maximize the space you have. Use headphones when tracking your vocals or mic'ed instruments. That's what I do - it seems silly to have to run from one room to the other if you're just recording yourself. You...
All I can say is that from you're description and from everything I've read on this forum and elsewhere, you have a classic case of a room which needs bass traps.
What you are asking about is a control surface only. It does not have a built in audio interface. It's just a nice way to control faders, knobs, transport buttons, etc in your DAW with real hardware contols instead of having to use a mouse.
I guess I don't understand why the salesman would tell you a "colored" pre should make up for a bad recording environment. If the environment is bad work on fixing the environment. I imagine there are other uses for a colored pre, and I'm not an expert, but I would think if I had to choose...
Well, it sounds like you're reaching the notes for the most part, but singing from the diaphragm will reduce strain and help keep things more under control. Ultimately it will make you sound more confident when you sing. Try holding your hand on your stomach when you sing - you should be able...
Well, I'm far from the expert around here, and hopefully a real pro will come along and help before too long. But my first impression is the vox had a kind of "washed out" sound - perhaps from too much reverb. I would say that vocals in this track should sound more up-front and confident...
OK, so I listened to it. Not too bad, but it seems a little heavy on the reverb and is also off key in parts. Are you the singer or is this someone you're recording? What specifically are you unhappy with?
When I try clicking on your vocal problems link I get a message in winamp "Error syncing to mpeg". I was able to click on your other link and hear your "guitar test" file ok.
The left side does sound cleaner and brighter, however it has that "electronic" sound characteristic that you often get from pickups on acoustic guitars. The right sound side has a much more natural sound, and I would prefer it, however unfortunately it seems to sound somewhat muddy and...
That's funny - most of the stuff I do I just throw out and try again. Sometimes I re-record after upgrading equipment and sometimes it's just to have another try with the same stuff. I'm still not at the point where I have any end results I'm entirely happy with - and some of that is probably...
For what it's worth, I found the color scheme to be very appealing, and had no trouble reading the text. But everyones different...
Glen, I read the entire article in chunks over the course of the last couple of days. Really enjoyed it and I think it helped to clarify a few points for me...
Hey Glen, I've started reading your article and just wanted to let you know how much your efforts in this are appreciated. Looks like a lot of great info. Thanks!
Most people just record vocals in mono. Here's a great online guide to give you some good beginner information. I think it may touch on the basics of compression and reverb (don't recall), but it is also a valuable guide to understanding the basics of home recording on a PC...
I believe that DSP stands for "Digital Signal Processing", however the UAD-I cards are actually PCI cards. The DSP is just telling you that it's a card which runs plugins using it's own hardware resources, rather than taxing the PC's CPU. By the way, I see that Universal Audio just today made...
Cool - i am really looking forward to it. I've done some looking around and noticed there's a real lack of really good information available on the subject right now. It's easy to find the basic stuff, like explanations of terms like ratio and threshold and stuff like that, but rarely does...
Hey Glen, I just ran across this thread while doing a search on "compression". Thing is, while I understand the basic principals of compression and use it in my projects, I would really like to get a more in-depth understanding. I was looking for sources to do some reading and this sounds...
