    Homemade xy mic clips???

These twin mic bars look quite handy but what about phase problems? I thought the rule of thumb to avoid phase cancellation was to have x-y mics separated at a distance of 3 times the distance from the source. If so then these mic bars would only be safe with very close micing.

    Speaker Cone as Mic???

I use my discman headphones occassionally for imprompteu recording sessions. Why? Because I've often got them with me (due to the nature of a discman) and sometimes I come up with something good while I'm at somebody else's house. The little fellas plug straight into most home stereos' mic...

    Variax 700

I've had a Vax 700 for about 6 months now and I love it. BUT if you want a 58 Les Paul Standard sound then you'll need a 58 Les Paul Standard. What I want is a range of different sounds without needing a range of different guitars. I don't care if it doesn't sound exactly like the guitars it's...

Bass, Line Out and the whole Balancing act

Thanks, I think I'll try an XLR-1/4" balanced lead - it sounds like a handy lead to own anyway. It will go to the Line input so padding down shouldn't a big issue.

Bass, Line Out and the whole Balancing act

OK, this scenario/question is quite specific and detailed but hopefuly a few different people can provide little bits of insight and I can build up my understanding. First up the gear: Ibanez Ergodyne 5-string with active circuitry Fender BXR 200 combo Behringer Eurorack UB2442FX mixer Maxi...

Samson C01 - Is is worth it???

No minimum wage here, we're from convict stock so we steal everything. :D Seriously though folks $1AUD = $0.76US ATM. I recently bought a C01 for $99 and think it does quite fine for my purposes. Those purposes being getting some rough tracks for each of us jam/practice to and then getting a...

    Clip-on Drum Mics

I've heard that these are no good for recording. I am thinking of getting the Samson 7Kit (1 x QKick, 1 x QSnare*, 3 x QTom* and 2 x CO2 pencil condensor). Alternative is get some more SM57s for toms and snare, a cheapish (suggestions?) bass/kick and a second Samson CO1 large diaphram condensor...

    Cad Gxl1200

I have seen them compared to a Shure SM57 (the instrument mic) but that was a comment made by a seller so it's in his/her favour to make us think that. Anybody able to provide a comparison?
