    buget mics that sound good

It depends. What mics do you have now ? Is there anything that those mics won't do well ? What are you tracking ? The AT4033 is a great mic. I've owned half a dozen condensers but none compare to the AT4033. Maybe that's because it cost more than the others I bought.......hmmmm...

    i got a classical! Cordoba 75R

Sounds like a really nice guitar. The same thing happened to me at Guitar Center, I just wandered into the nylon-string section and I knew I had to have one. They have beautiful tone.

    Upgrading Micpre question

The Presonus is good and the Grace is good, but they are clean and neutral sounding like your TMD4000 and I don't know how much of an upgrade they are. A Great River or Vintech Dual 1272 might give you that thicker vocal sound, more attitude. Universal Audio M-160 might be a good choice...

Influence of room when close micing a guitar cab?

The SM57 has a hypercardoid pattern, so I think it's good at rejecting sound outside of it's pattern. Most of the time with a dynamic mic it's gonna be almost right on the grill or a few inches back, so the room acoustics don't matter much. If you do want some of the room sound, use a...

    which keyboard do i buy?

Re: sequencer I think so. I really don't know too much about SONAR, but if you buy a synth without an onboard sequencer it usually saves you money. Yamaha Motif Rack and a basic 61-key controller, $1200 Used Korg Karma, probably close to your $1000 budget Roland XV-5050...

    guitar effects

Delay is an essential effect for ambient guitar. Experiment with it's various parameters. You don't even really have to know what you are doing, sometimes just turning the knobs or buttons you can find great sounds. Chorus, phase shifting, flanging, Leslie/rotating speaker, Uni-vibe...

    modelling preamps

I'm interested in modeling preamps because they might end up being good for direct recording with synths, POD's, drum samples, bass guitar, etc. To add color and character.

    Keyboards and Sound Modules

It's all very subjective. The 01/W's filters were less bright and a bit "rough" sounding and that is a good thing IMHO, but the effects were poor and characterless. The Triton has a sound that is more "high fidelity" and detailed, with much better effects qualities. The 01/W and the...

    J-station guitar tones for bass?

Trust your ears. Maybe even try playing the various preset amp models without even looking at the J-Station, so that your mind isn't telling that that it is wrong to play a bass guitar through a Fender Blackface for instance.

    Give me Mo' Mo' Mo'

Motif ES Yamaha just announced a new line of Motif workstations and they have some very impressive features. I'll be very tempted to try one. They have the Triple Strike Piano like the S-90 has, more samples devoted to orchestral sounds, 175 MB in ROM, more insert effects, twice the...

    im sooo stupid

I would invest in a preamp because it will supply +48 phantom power, function as a direct box for bass guitar, make your dynamic mics sound great, etc.

    exciter...alesis compressor/limiter?

I would look at some of the threads in the "Other Equipment and Reviews" section here at homerecording.com. I don't know what the good inexpensive monitors are.

    exciter...alesis compressor/limiter?

Because monitors are just about the most important component in a home studio. Before you consider exciters and outboard compression or anything , buy a pair of active nearfield monitors. Your mixes will improve greatly and so will your enjoyment of recording.

    What should I get next?

You have good mics for country and rock music, but if you are serious about recording choirs and live jazz groups, a good quality pair of small diaphram condensers should be a priority. I'm not really an expert on what to buy for that application.
