I don't think any harm will come at all, it's just that a bass with passive pickups needs to operate at a high impedance to avoid loading the pickups too much and compromising tonality. You will probably get a better sound with a direct box, how much better depends on the mixer and that...
The guitar might not need a direct box but the bass will benefit. It will match the impedance and probably make his low-end sound like it should. I have a Behringer DI-100 that sounds good and it sells for about $30, I think it compares favorably to ones I have used that cost 5 times that...
If you are going to buy a portable recorder (like the MR-8 for instance), the first thing you need to look at is how many tracks it will record simultaneously. Some will record 2 tracks simult., some 4, 8. Consider how you will be recording.
The new Electronic Musician magazine reviewed the VTB-1 this month. It said it was incapable of recording clean sounds and it was better for dirtier colored sounds. They liked it as a direct box, especially for bass guitar.
It wasn't a bad review but I didn't read it as a good review...
The keys on the Triton are a bit flimsy and cheap and the action suffers a little because of that.
Otherwise, it has the Triton sound without the expansion cababilities and the higher price tag of the other Tritons.
I've only played the table top version of the Virus C but I like it more than the Nord Lead 3. It has some of the most aggressive sounds of all the virtual analog synths yet it can also do smoother prettier sounds. It seems real versatile to me.
The Nord Lead 3 has a unique sound, I like...
Seymour Duncan Seth Lover or Antiquity pickups. Gibson Burstbucker 1, 2, or 3. Most of the new Gibson LP's come with Burstbucker 2 and 3.
The Seymour Duncan's have been around a while and are widely loved by Les Paul owners wanting a vintage late 50's low-output sound. Great for blues...
I would spend another $100 and get the AT 4040 instead of the 3035.
Preamps-
Grace 101 $550
FMR RNC $500
Great River MP-1NV $1000
Universal Audio M-160 $1100
Vintech Dual 1272 $1250
Those manufacturers all have websites you can get info. from, and there are...
The Bass POD does not have any acoustic guitar presets. I did try playing a Les Paul through mine once and it was horrible, the EQ was really strange so I'm guessing an acoustic guitar would not sound good through it. I don't know which one is better.
You could buy the Bass V-Amp from an...
V-Amp Pro $200
Bass POD $250
not much price difference. The price of the Bass POD has come down in the last few weeks because of the new Bass POD XT that is coming out soon.
Because I'm primarily a guitarist.
I got interested in synths, piano and MIDI in the 80's and early 90's but once I rediscovered my interest in music a few years ago I have devoted of my attention to guitar and bass.
1. put the standby switch in the "on" position
2. Turn power on
3. Let it warm up for at least 5 or 10 minutes
4. put the standby switch in the "off" position.
5. Crank up the volume and play that guitar !
6. When you're done playing put the standby in the "on"...
What is garbage about what has been said about Chinese mics and audio ? Why should it be enlightening ?
If you explain those two things I will take you off my troll list.
2-channel preamp- Vintech Dual 1272 $1250
If you don't need two channels, I would definitely consider a compressor and preamp in one unit, commonly refered to as a channel strip or voice channel. M-Audio Tampa $600.
Compressor- FMR RNC
