    Studying Recording

As far as schools go there is also The Recording Workshop, The Conservatory in Arizona, RIT (The Recording Institute of Technology) in La, Some other school in LA, and many others. Check the net and check them out. I asked this question on Recording Techniques and got some really good answers...

    which mic to use?

The best cheapest thing i've used were telephone mics. ROund rubber pieces used to tape phone conversations. For cheap ass mics they sounded great. Radio Shaft might have em.

Alright now, where the hell did you get that deal? Address, website, phone, whatever.... Also is the ART tube parametric eq any good?

    Basement Wet/Dry room.

I'm not really sure how economical or difficult this is, but I recently read of a studio that had a main recording room that could be made to sound "live" or "dead." They had these wall-like things around the room, one side was live, and if you wanted a dead room, you turned them all around and...

    soundcard outputs?? another Newbie starts!

This isn't my league, I'm not a computer guy, but there is a really interesting article about "Roll your own" computers and how much it'd cost to make a kick-ass, fast as all get out computer, including how much stuff costs and where to get it, on ProRec.com (Hey Dragon, no offense meant! But...

    424 MK3 Effects Loop

Uhhh....I still don't get what it is you are trying to do. Are you wanting a 100% wet signal? All I know is the effect knob under the EQ knobs is your wet and dry. Left is dry signal. Middle is 50/50, right is wet. Also, do you have the L-R button pushed in? Keep it on L-R and not effect 1...

    Tascam 424 - erasing

Erase a track? Just Re-record over it. Or mix down and turn that track off. You shouldn't ever need to erase it.

    portable multitrackers? (md, hd, etc)

The 840 only records 4 tracks at a time. Plus, you can't hook it up to a cd burner. The VS880 can, and records 8 tracks simultaneously, and has 2 effects cards in it (the 1680 doesn't. You gotta buy em.)

    portable multitrackers? (md, hd, etc)

The only "under $500" thing I know of digitally is the Fostex digital four track. It's $300 and you gotta buy a Zip drive which is around $140. Or you could look around for something used.

    boss dr-770 or alesis sr16?

I asked the same thing about two weeks ago. No one really answered. To me it came down to this Alesis SR16 for $199 Or Boss Dr5 or 770 for $389. I chose Alesis because of price and I only heard good things. that being said, it is good. It was made in 1990 so I'm sure the Boss's are...

Bass to guitar... Then back again

Play guitar and bass everyday. Be sure to use all four fingers. As for solos, learn scales. For rock, country, or any variation therein, learn the major and minor pentatonic. then learn it in all five positions. Later on move to the major and minor scales and eventually modes. People...

    Small, cheap but decent mixer?

I don't know HOW good they are, but Behringer makes 2 cheap mixers... 4 channel, 2 mic inputs, 2 stereo line inputs. $110 from Musicians Friend. 6 channel, 4 mic inputs, 2 stereo line inputs. $210 fro MF. (I'm not positive on the 6 channel specs I gave. Price and inpust especially. Check...

    424 MK3 Effects Loop

Your Effect 1 knob should be basically just a "Wet/Dry" knob. So turning it all the way up should yield in no original signal and all POD. Also have your stereo returns all the way up. This works on the 414 at least. If you have it hooked up stereo in and stereo out, turn effect 1 and 2 all...

414mkII...is it a good buy or not?

I'm your man. I own and use a Tascam 414. Here is the skinny. *You CAN record on all 4 tracks at once. *It records at DOUBLE speed (this means you'll have better sound quality, but you won't be able to play tapes on other decks, cause they'll sound too slow. BUT you can still mix down to...

    Line out or Preamp out?

I have a Fender Stage 112. It has Preamp Out, Line Out, PowerAmp In, and no Phone jack, but some amps do. I was just wondering if using Line Out meant that it was "PostAmp" thereby being an amplified signal that could possibly hurt my recorder or processors. By the way, PreAmp and Line Out...

I think this would be a cool idea

Good idea, but I wouldn't pay that much. How about just being able to download it off the net. I bet for the most part, the bands and producers would hate the idea, because of the possability of you dubbing off YOUR mix of THEIR art. The cool bands that are into HomeRecording might allow it...

    Channel Bleed 424mkIII?

If you are just recording 1 thing per track, it's much much easier to use Direct recording. The Portastudio manuels tell you to use bus, but if you just use Direct, you don't even have to make a cue mix. Bus means path and you only have 2. A right bus and a left. The only time to use a bus...
