Just wondering, is anyone still using wax cylinders for their recording medium? At home or otherwise? What kind of properties do you get, are there any good wax saturations? And is there a plugin to emulate that? Thanks!
Do you use these mics a lot? And if so can you post a link to a recording that was done with one so I can see what it sounds like? Also do you ever use Oktava mics?
Whenever I go to my local MXL V67g store, I always say, "hey, I would like an MXL V67g please", and they respond "What color?". So yeah, of course they come in different colors:cool:!
I'd say get a cheaper pair of monitors maybe spend like $200. That will be a huge step up. I just posted this in another thread but get the GLS audio sm57 knockoff. Same damn thing for $30.
I have the really small Mackie mixer. I think its vlz402 or something like that, the smallest one they make. It has 2 really high quality preamps in it. Very clear, smooth, and tons of gain. I highly recommend this box if you're on a budget. Really the next step up is going to be like $700 or...
One of the cool things about Zep is that none of the members really ever divulged much info on the band and what they did. All the documentaries and biogs are really just speculation. Plant specifically said that the entire bio "hammer of the gods" was all based on the account of some smack...
If you want an sm57 you can get the clone from gls audio for 30-40 $. Just as good, and I know because I own one, and a 57. I got a used Oktava Mk219 for exactly $100. I love it, if you want to see what it sounds like click on the link below to my soundcloud. 99% of that was done with the Oktava...
You have to experiment with mic position. Also did you try just using the direct out on the amp? Most of the pros use multiple mics on a single guitar speaker, so you can't try to compare the sound you're getting with Slash or something like that. They surround his cab with various mics at...
I'll give it a shot. But I have to wait til I go to the place where I have all my gear stored for recording. I think I could do something with this. Very cool track.
Alright I tested a bunch of the reverbs out. A few of them sound really great. I messed up the recording at first by picking the wrong one, which was really boxy to my ears I think it was "theater". There are other ones which sound way better. The "gold plate" is my favorite, its super dense...
I thought the same thing as you when I first started out. Tube would make it sound cooler. Know that most of the great records of all time were actually done with solid state preamps, and that includes all through the 60s. Not many of those used tube pres.
Also I would NOT recommend the EHX...
It worked!!!
Ok, went back for another mixing session just now. (I take a break from mixing when I get frustrated by technical crap, and instead just focus on practicing and performing for a bit).
First I set it up with the clock on the v-verb set to external. Crucial. Then I hit record and I...
I was told it can work as a digital out by the guy at the store. In the my computer's audio preferences there is an option for digital out, which I selected. As far as the clock thing, I was never really even aware of what that did, so I'll look into it. Thanks for the advice.
Ok still haven't gotten the loop thing to work. My setup is I'm sending the audio out through a spdif cable out the headphone jack of my macbook as a digital out. I'm trying to send that to the spdif input on the v-verb, and then out through the 1/4 inch analog output on the v-verb, into my...
If you could add 1 item to your studio free of charge what would it be. 2 rules though.
1. You can never resell it, must keep it for life.
2. No consoles, has to be a specific use piece of gear.
For me it would be a high end LDC probably. What brand? I have no f'in idea because I've never...
I just made a recording yesterday, so I'm going to test out how it sounds compared my plugins. I'll report back the results here. The reason I bought it was because I read a lot of great reviews on sites like this, so we'll see if it is deserved. At worst, I can use it as a live reverb if it...
I'm new to the world of using outboard effects, and just picked up my first one, a behringer v-verb. After doing a lot of research on how to actually apply this piece of equipment, I'm back to square one, and still have no clue how to approach this. I have a couple of questions.
1. Do I need to...
Here's the best single tip I'd give someone asking how to sing. Be committed to learning the instrument. Don't treat as an afterthought, it really is the thing that can make or break a song. Singing is just like learning any other instrument, it takes time, work, practice and dedication to...
