Marshall AVT Fan - Suitable for recording?

I have an AVT 50 - the fan is very loud when the amp is started, but after 2 minutes or so, it dies down. Once it's running normally, it doesn't get picked up by a mic.

Got a loaner short scale tenor banjo

Oh, that's not what I was thinking of at all. I thought it was a slightly shorter scale than a conventional tenor banjo. I didn't think it was mandolin scale length. Still, with the GDAE tuning you can play lots of Irish stuff on it. An Irish banjo is four string, tuned GDAE. For all intents...

Got a loaner short scale tenor banjo

That's pretty much an Irish banjo! Congrats. I play one, if there's anything you'd like to know just ask. There's also a lot of instructional material out there.

    Acoustics and Wood

Seeing as he asked me this same question the other day, I think I know what he's getting at. First off, he's referring to flat top, steel string guitars. Secondly, he means the soundboard/top of the instrument. Thirdly, he's looking at it from the point of view of recording - in other words...

    Performing Advice Plz

Make eye contact from time to time, but don't stare at one person for too long. Talk a little, but only a little - they're there to hear you play. With a heckler, thank them politely. If you're particularly quick-witted, try to turn it back on them (but keep it clean! For example, if someone...

Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

I think it looks great. I'm not gonna say a bad word about it because 1) I'm not really sure what I'm talking about :D, and 2) it's a million times better than I could do. Might the recessed bridge might be because there's not sufficient angle on the neck to have the bridge mounted in the...

    Zero fret question...

So, when I'm playing fingerstyle I often tune down a half step and capo at the first fret. I like the way it evens out my string tone, if you know what I mean. I understand that a zero fret will do the same thing. Given the benefits of the zero-fret (the fact that the cut of nut slots is less...

    Muttley, Light - Scale length.

Ah, don't start with that again....:D Life was simpler when I knew less. And that goes for everything - tuning issues, women, whiskey.

    Muttley, Light - Scale length.

Some guy on another forum was wondering why the fret placement on his Epiphone was very slightly different to the fret placement on his Gibson, despite the fact that they both had the same scale length. Bill Lawrence - yeah, the Bill Lawrence - posted this: This has nothing to do with USA...

    Gig Getting Advice

For what it's worth, I'm 23, and if there was a one man act playing Elvis songs in a bar near me, I'd be there most nights until closing time. I'm really not sure what you can do - try some open mic nights first, maybe? Good luck with it, though. The world needs more old school rock and roll.
