To click-track or not to click-track..

I think if the idea is to record a band as 'live' as possible (ie record the band playing the song in one particular take) under studio conditions, then no click track. the click would spoil the mood/feel. The feel is what your trying to capture. if overdubbing is required, each instrument...

Mixing with sub mixes(The Good and Bad)

So do we all have to state up front before asking a question about product 'x' that we are legitimate owners of it before asking anything? It would get a little tedious. We don't ask people if they are legitimate owners of a guitar or a mic or whatever! I understand the point that's being made...

Can 67 year old learn fostex vf-160?

You can only record 8 tracks at once with the VF as it is 'out of the box'. i understand there's an additional component you can buy to make 16 track at once possible, sorry i don't know what that is as it's not something I've needed, maybe someone else can assist.

Can 67 year old learn fostex vf-160?

persevere? I know the frustration. I have used this machine since 2004 and produced two albums from it, so it's more than earned its keep. i was totally baffled by it to start with and found it very frustrating, the manual was difficult to follow. A lot of that though came from the fact that i...

    Fostex 160 4 Track Multitrack ?

It's an excellent machine, that's what I'd say. Just released the second full album CD recorded at home using the fostex vf160. It's 16 track BTW, not 4 track. As with any form of home recording though, the results you get will reflect the time you invest in learning how to record in general...

    Do Lyrics Even Matter?

Lyrics matter, otherwise every song would simply have 'lah lah lah' as the lyric, the fact that they don't all go 'lah lah lah' demonstrates that lyrics matter! How much they matter, depends on the listener and the genre, surely? It's like saying do guitar solos matter, if it's Blues yes, if...

    Online Podcasts and net Broadcasters?

I can't see that this subject has been posted before, at least not where I'd expect it in the Marketing/publicity forum, so here goes... Looking for places to send promo copies of the new CD. Podcasts are a way of getting your music heard by a few people. To start us off here's one link to a...

    Do Lyrics Even Matter?

if you go back in time to the earliest songs, ballads sung by wandering minstrels, passed on by memory and imitation, they usually told a story. The whole purpose of the song was to tell the story in an entertaining way. Some have seemed to suggest that you can either write pure meaningless...

    Kid antrim records

Same old response really, no legitimate organisation interested in representing you will ask for a $50 fee, it doesn't make sense, unless that is they hope to get lots of $50 amounts from gullible and desperate hopefulls. Spend the $50 yourself on postage and packaging, do some research get...

Self releasing CD's: do you prefer EP's or full length CD's?

Why have the two formats? Why not do the 15 track CD and for clubs just rip the 4 best songs to a CDR. or put your four 'best' songs first on the 15 track CD and send that to clubs if you're seeking gigs? If they don't like your first songs they won't listend to all 15 anyway. if they like the...

Let's Break It Down: How Many CDs Have You Sold?

Good point... There's a big difference between someone saying buy this record by this artist, it's really great, than saying please buy MY record ... The forst way it's not just your own opinion of the worth of the music, someone else is so convinced that it's good that he can do a selling job...

Let's Break It Down: How Many CDs Have You Sold?

I don't disagree, it's perfectly possible for a known artist who already has a high profile to make records, not play live at all, and still sell CDs, agreed. But even for an established artist they'll sell more if they also tour. What i thought we focused on in this forum is the 'home...

Let's Break It Down: How Many CDs Have You Sold?

I understand what you're saying, wise words. I guess i was coming at it form the point of view of someone who isn't connected and doesn't have promotional resources at his disposal. if you don't have a Brian E. working for you, you aren't signed to any label and can't afford a PR company, then...

Let's Break It Down: How Many CDs Have You Sold?

Not sure what point you're making here BMwerks? You can't compare the situation of a little guy on here making his own album and trying to sell a few hundred copies with that of the biggest band in history! For the record the beatles were huge in the UK prior to going to the USA and therefore...

To release a CD or not? Read before voting please!

Depends what you want the CDs for? If you have the money, there's an argument for going for full replication and producing as professional product as you can afford even for purely promotional purposes. It's more impressive for club owners, promoters, labels, fans, etc, to give them a...

    Podcasts

There are loads of podcast shows out there, very happy to play unsigned music. It's worth doing, some of them are very grateful if you send them a copy of your CD or whatever and may even do a feature on you. OK, so most of them probably don't have many listeners, but if you get your songs...
