A 16" x 10" bass drum is a smaller than your average floor tom...... For 220 bucks you can easily find a full sized used kit that would be a lot better than that..... I mean if that's what you really want to do, then I can't stop you. But I think you'd be much happier with a full sized kit...

If you do decide to go with an LDC (which is what I used to use to record my drums with just one mic) check out the Samson C03, it's only 100 bucks and it has 3 different patterns..... I've also gotten decent results with it on acoustic guitars.

Check out anything hartke.... I put this in you other post, but just incase you haven't read it yet.... They make a 2x10 X 1x15 with a horn (all in the same) cab and it only sells for 250 at sam ash..... It handle 450 watts at 8 ohms, you'd really be rocking with that sucker! :D Hartke also...

You can definately find a "pawn shop" treasure in that price range.... I've got a monster of a bass that says "MAGNUM" at the top. That bass simply rips and I paid 75 for it at a pawn shop. Ibanez sound gears are awesome! The bassist in my very first band had one and it was really easy to play...

You're right I should of phrased that differently..... When I recording with just one overhead mic, I didn't get enough bass drum for the style of music I play.

You're probally going to get insanely bored with just a kick a snare and hi-hats..... There's only so much you can do with that. You can always find a decent used tama set somewhere.... I have an old tama swingstar set that I paid about 250 for second hand. Thoose drums were a lot better than...

If you do decide to try a d.i. I'd recomend the new hartke pedal they have. I just snatched one up at samash for less than 100 bucks and I really like it. I can use a 9 volt battery, an adapter, OR PHANTOM POWER (which is very nice).

Could it be the string height? Check that out, and if it's a lower lower try raising it a bit. (you'll need to loosen up the string, adjust the sadle with a tiny allen wrench, re-tune the sting, and adjust as needed). I hope that helps....
