I would recomend checking out either the KRKs or a set of events. I'm currently useing the Even ASP 8s and have fallen in love with them but by the sounds of things their out of your price range.

Yeah you can run up to 4 together. The only complaint I have is that I didn't buget for a wordclock but that'll be in my next order in the spring.

I've used anything from a crappy behringer omni mic to a AKG Perception 400 in Omni as room mics and everytime i've got a decent sound. Even the behringer suprisingly. Just experiment with it. If you're room is large it'll give a natural reverb effect but doenst allways fit.

FOH stands for Front of House, its in reference to live sound yes. It depicts the job of the engineer. Its in relation to the engineer mixing for the audience while the Moniter engineer mixes for the band.

Well judging by behringer is rather biased and I've only used the 01v96 once when filling in for a friend at a local theater for a night. It was a pretty sweet board but thats quite a difference in price. I guess I was wrong in being so generic.
