    RME HDSPe 9632

Maybe because having to pipe the audio that a 9632 can manage doesn't even use the bandwidth of pci?

    record music with PC laptop?

I would only be weary about a laptop that used shared memory for the video. Try to get one with a real video card.

Where can I find a sound card that has drivers for Windows Vista?

Got an Edirol FA-66 for the laptop becuse it had vista drivers: cannot record a stereo channel without drops.

    Raid?

Depends. There has been a test some time ago where they did exactly that: make an array and try the disks on a different controller to see if it could be used. This was with chipset controllers. But as a guide, don't depend on having to replace your controller, even if it is a "serious" one...

    Raid?

Mirroring will not slow down anything unless the controller asks a lot of the cpu.

Decent sound card for a linux system?

Actually, it is rather easy if you stick with pci. Tons of cards. I admit I never heard of the card you mention. Problem is that apart from the budget not much is know what the TS wants. He asks about the audiophile 192. If he would have gone to the Alsa site he would have found this...

Decent sound card for a linux system?

Any Alsa supported card should work. Check out the Alsa site: www.alsa-project.org or if you would like a firewire card take a look at Ffado: www.ffado.org (but this is still in beta stage) Best bet would be an RME pci card. I have no idea why anyone should want asio with linux, don't even...

Ardour: Anyone using it for a real projects?

Fun isn't it? I'm getting more and more at ease with Rezound. Now if only that bl***y pc wouldn't make so much noise... I read someone got Cinelerra running. How is that for audio?

    Asio Or WDM for Recording???

You don't need more than a stereo driver to record voice after recording something else. But do as LPDeluxe told you, go to the CEP forum. It is only a matter of setting your software mixer and channel selection in CEP. It would help if you just rtfm... Wdm will do fine for what you want.

Using CEP now, but should I change???

It a box that looks like a mixer, but speaks midi to your multitrack software. Best to check a few sites in orer to know what works with what and how well. It won't make all your problems go away. But if the interface is a problem it might be worth a look. I must admit I haven't worked with CEP...

Using CEP now, but should I change???

Having used CEP for a long time, I found it easier to use than most other apps. Maybe you should look for a control surface. But I don't know what works with CEP.

    PCI card/converters question

I only have experience with RME. Good stuff, no frills. Does exactly what it says. The most stable piece of pc gear I ever owned. Excellent drivers. Never had troubles with it, so I don't even know how their support is, you don't need it.

    HELP!!!: SATA Questions

You should find a way to get into the sata controller bios. It is there that you have to configure how to use the drives. Now the possibility exsists that you cannot use those connections for anything else than raid. RTFM is the only way to make sure.

    Poll: Best soundcard brand

Only have RME and Creamware from your list. Both RME cards have been stable and first class since the went into the pc (three pc's ago). Whatever OS/cpu/chipset, they work as advertised. The most troublefree part of any pc I ever had. Now, the creamware...first rate AD/DA for a card inside a...

Which setup *theoretically* would give clearer audio?

Hard to know just from the info you gave. In theory the digital output on the soundcard to the speakers would be best. It is hard to find good convertors in soundcards (there are some, but rare and expensive). And most likely the digital connection will pass through a transformer on one side...
