Equipment needed to build a vocal studio

chris-from-ky The Sonar Power Studio 660 is a firewire audio interface which also has mic preamps. I understand it's equivalant to the Ederal FA-66 $350/500 (sale/list) unit. I'm interested in the free plugins you mentioned. Where do you get em? I'm low on cash and would like a nice low cost...

Presonus Firebox and XP Media Edition

I don't think it's a hardware issue yet. It was working fine until I started experiementing to see if I could make things better, plus I really want to see how well this thing runs on a laptop, so I need to experiment some. I bet I just do not have the settings right. I'm sorta planing on taking...

Presonus Firebox and XP Media Edition

The Presonus driver? You mean the device driver? I did install the device drivers, that part works fine. I'm talking about the DAW softare where you select which driver to use. I haven't messed around much with the latency setting from the Presonus control window. I guess that is the latency...

Presonus Firebox and XP Media Edition

I'm having problems, maybe you can help me. But I should say that I have yet to install Cubase LE that came with the package, and that install might have some help with how to best setup the firebox, I really don't know. I tried using the firebox to play some songs and after half way thru the...

    laptop advice -not Mac

Just in case you might be interested in a very small desktop/portable PC. After seeing this little PC DAW, I know I have been moved to go cube! It's upgradeable, max's at 8gigs of RAM, not 2, fast fsb, three HDD ports, but one is external. Interesting laptop alternative. :cool...

Swapping XP Media Center Edition for XP Pro

I got my DAW running ok on MCE, but I don't have anything to compare it to. Seems to be running just fine to me tho. I have a few drop outs now and then, but I am not even sure I have the system configured properly yet... These programs are really complex!

Better than Presonus Firebox for the $$$?

Very cool, thanks for the tip. I haven't opened it up and still have the receipt. Could you please explain why you think it's better, or give the clearest benefit for going with this unit over the faderport? thanks...

Swapping XP Media Center Edition for XP Pro

By the way, if you haven't seen Roland's V Vocal voice editing tool, it's worth a look! Roland's V Vocal editor video demo This is just one example of a unique program's functionality that I am interested in.

Swapping XP Media Center Edition for XP Pro

I have had several folks suggest the same thing to me. I even joined their forum, so rest assured that I am interested. I plan on giving them a try, but at the same time, I plan on using what others have used as well. I would like to learn a bit more about the ins and outs of PC DAW studio work...

    Buying new computer

Your question is very opened ended, it's even vague. Which Dell are you talking about, is it a laptop or a desktop or a tablet PC or what? If it doesn't have firewire ports, then you could install a firewire card. They make firewire cards for laptops too. For those interface devices that come...

Better than Presonus Firebox for the $$$?

I can tell that I need to end up getting power conditioning, the rig is that sensative. I had planned on getting a good mic, but I am a bit surprised at how nice it is, that and the mic pres on the presonus are impressive. I will have to do a search for that mic to see how people like using it...

Presonus Firebox and XP Media Edition

That's what I've recently learned. Reduced customer support has got to like it tho. I wish there was a way to just get rid of the MCE parts and just stick with the plain XP pro that remains...

Better than Presonus Firebox for the $$$?

Sounds great, I almost went with the multimix12, but I heard from more than one poster that they have some durability issues, so I backed away. Maybe they are not so bad after all. I sorta figured I'd end up liking the faderport for hands on controls, the only downfall is that it only has one...

Swapping XP Media Center Edition for XP Pro

Very cool links, I did not know you could Pro out an (eom) MCE version by submitting an Pro key. Not, not sure what an OEM disk means. Probably does not mean the Toshiba Recovery and Applications disk...(?) Also, I may be alright with my MCE machine for the next 2 weeks or so. I am new to DAW's...

Swapping XP Media Center Edition for XP Pro

 :( Dang, I hear you I do! I am naturally going to avoid doing this. It would likely take me even longer as I have not done this sort of thing in eons. Good point, nice alternative! I might could use a nice fast 7200 spin sata laptop HDD anyway! Very interesting... :D...

Swapping XP Media Center Edition for XP Pro

What is the procedure to get rid of a previous OS, and put on a different one on a new laptop? I bought a laptop to be the brains for my DAW, but it came installed with XP Media Center Edition, and most DAW software do not support XP MCE, and about everyone suggests getting rid of XP MCE. I...

    Buying new computer

I'm trying to find out why Presonus warns against using xpmedia because of having so many problems with that OS. Did you need to make some adjustments in your XPmedia to let it play friendly with the Firebox? That is my rig in question. Glad to hear it's working good for you.

    Presonus Inspire vs Firebox

How do you do it? I'll go google it if I can't find how to do it here. I have a laptop that I may not keep so I do not want to format and load a new os, plus buying another version of xp when you already have one, seems a waist of money, especially if you can just tweak it to get it to work.

Presonus Firebox and XP Media Edition

This is from the Presonus firebox compatability website. Why? My laptop comes with that OS, is there something I can turn off or whatever to allow the Presonus to work fine in xp media? I am presently doing the intial hardware install. I hope it works ok...

Better than Presonus Firebox for the $$$?

I got the Firebox, the FaderPort, nice condesor mic, headset, cable, and boom mic stand. :D Spent a wad, but it should be worth it.
