I'm not getting any audio through my interface.

I had this same problem 2 weeks ago. I did two things and I can't say which cured it. 1) I turned off my antivirus software while turning off my wifi 2) I went into Sonar 8 and switched it from ASIO to WDM and then back to ASIO This seems to have cured the issue for me.

    Multiband Compression

I've never used a C4 on a single track. A sub-mix yes, but never a single track. EQ has done the trick for me in those situations where I was looking for sound shaping. I understand the concept that you might only want to feel the bass'ier frequencies of a guitar to a certain volume, but...

    Multiband Compression

Why would you ever use a C4 if you've got the source material? I understand using a C4 if you've been given a mix to master, but you've got the source material. If anything needs compression you should compress that individual track (or group of tracks.. which is what i prefer to do with back...

    Which Sampling Rate - 44.1 or 96?

LeeRosario: not a bad idea. if you have no signal difference you have a reasonable but not conclusive proof. If you have differences they could be attributed to the software used to downsample. but i don't think that tells the full story. Here is what I think puts this argument to bed...

    Recording Live Band w/Laptop Question.

what kind of powered mixer are you using? does it have AUX sends or direct outs? i use an Edirol FA-101 connected to the direct out of a mackie 1604 with the drums mixed through Aux3-4 into the last 2 channels of the FA-101.

Sonar5 automated mute and Tascam FW-1884

I had read in several places that Sonar doesn't support automated mute for control surfaces and haven't been able to trick it into multi-track automated mute, but have been able to get it to work on a one track basis. I was able to use the FW-1884's arrow keys to select the mute of the sonar...

    Grace 101

I demo'd the grace 101 before i bought the RNP. i thought it sounded great, but i bought the RNP because i considered situations where i might want to record an acoustic guitar with 2 mics or even an amped guitar with a close mic and a distant mic.

    vocal compression

completely dry 24 bit / 44.1khz, then compress things when mixing. glad i didn't throw away my old compressors though. they come in real handy for compressing my drummer's kick and snare at live gigs.

record again, or copy and paste

first: the Roots are the only hip-hop band that I know of that ever sold any records. second: i'm not a purist. i don't record in analog. i don't have a record player, and if the song sounds good with the rhythm section pasted in so be it. if it sounds better with each part recorded the...

    EQing guitars?

if your guitar sound is MUDDY, you should probably start looking at the following before worrying about mic placement: 1) you've got a shite guitar 2) you need to use a pick instead of your thumb 3a) you've set your strat to bridge single coil with the tone rolled off 3b) you've set your les...

    Rendering Pops...Please help!

try slapping a limiter on the main bus. when you export to mp3 are you going from 24 bit down to 16 bit and if so are you using dither? doesn't really explain why it would be happening in different spots but lets start at the beginning and see what happens.

    Vocal Ideas/Tricks in the Mix

so what you're really saying is that you never mix other people's material? you never do a low cut on vocal tracks? The only track that i don't low cut are the bass and kick (and occasionally the low conga drum in a 'no drums' acoustic song). you've never had to take the meat out of back...

This just in!! Cakewalk software is now called SONAR!!

with the roland v-vocal, roland groove station, and now the edirol fa-101 being part of the "sonar power" bundle with the face of the unit painted with "cakewalk", I thought maybe Roland was making a play for Cakewalk... guess they are just strategic partners.

    sonar 6 input/output problem

buryher17: just curious... the drivers don't work meaning you get no sound, or the drivers don't work meaning can't be installed? if you get no sound, then yes, do try MME instead of WDM/Dx or ASIO. if the drivers won't install at all, then you're going to have to reinstall XP, but try not to...

    Buffer size

the latency depends on the type of audio (asio, mme, wdm/dx) driver you are using, the buffer size, and the number of "buffers in playback queue". with a 44.1khz sample rate, 2 'bipq', and asio4all drivers to my laptop soundcard the best i can do is 11.6msec. however, if i set the sample rate...

    Control surface

I've got the 1884 and am generally happy with it. it has 8 sliders, but can be expanded with 2 FE-8's to 24 sliders. however, it sounds like you just want a control surface not a full digital mixer. my only caveat... no vista drivers yet (5/14/07) and their dumb-ass software does an...

Can Sonar 4 work on Win Vista ?

Sonar5 / Reason3.0.4 on Vista 32-bit running on a AMD64bit dual core. only snag: dumb ass tascam hasn't released Vista drivers for the FW-1884 so I'm using my Edirol fa-101.

    why bother with 24 bit

Samples per second affects TIME. Inaccurate frequency reproduction is a side effect. I press record. I wait N seconds and then I pluck my guitar string one time. In a 88khz based recording, my string pluck started at: sample 5 of 88,000 samples in the Nth second In a 44.1khz based recording...

    why bother with 24 bit

Here is where Farview is going: If your sampling rate is not sufficiently high, you won't even be able to capture those higher frequencies because you won't be able to capture the changes in the wave Here is where Danny.Guitar is going: the more samples you take the more accurate your digital...
