Mixing advice: Full mix. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I'm at work and can't listen but you'd probably have better response posting this in the mp3 clinic.

Silence at beginning/end of tracks when assembling an album?

I usually leave a second or two of silence at the end of the tune, fade out or cold. The beginning gets about a half second. The tunes that have a couple seconds at the beginning drive me batshit.

    Recording levels

my bad... yeah, -18 to -12 for average with peaks around -6 or so. Mostly, I find that if I keep my average down around the -18 or so, I don't generally have to worry about the peaks. sorry for the confusion... sorta. :)

    Recording levels

Tracking levels are better off being around -18 to -12. That leaves you headroom for when your mixing and then mastering. Headroom =good. :) I keep my faders at unity (zero) and adjust my trim (input gain) to put my levels at the -18 to -12. Also, when I double track my rhythm guitars, I'll...

    My recordings are overly quiet

As far as seeing the signal, you can just zoom in but as to being quiet... no worries. That's normal. You can bump it up as you get into the mixing and "mastering" stage. The key is you're leaving headroom. That's a good thing. Don't sweat the volume. :)

    Mixing in an untreated room

yup yup... Havin a large space is great. If/when you can treat it, just build some nice superchunks for the corners. They'll be a good start and look good too. In the meantime, what I used to do was to just mix, burn a CD, play it in different systems, and take notes on what sounded off. Back...

Recording Levels -- a.k.a. PROPER recording levels

This is the read that got me tracking at better levels. This one simple thing has improved my recordings more than any thing else I've done. Kudo's (again) John. :)

    mixing

I can't listen (work) but first, I'd ask you how hot your tracking. I shoot for headroom. Keep your average level at around -18 up to -12 with peaks up to -6. If you're "just below clipping", you're too hot. Keep in mind, I'm talking tracking here, not mixing or mastering. A way I was taught...

    Microphone for quick vocal recording

Is there an option of trying em all? I'd probably start with the Beta but one size doesn't fit all and it may not fit her vocals that well.

Is it better to track a vocal dry or with a little wet effect?

I record dry but put some reverb in the cans. I add the effects (if any) in the mix.
