    let me see your studio!

    Here's a link to thread from another site. I have a few pictures of where I built my armrest. I used a 2X4, Vinyl, and a staple gun. It's held up fine :p http://www.gearslutz.com/board/studio-building-acoustics/448201-construction-photos-mixing-desk.html (you have to scroll about 2/3 of the...

    let me see your studio!

    Suprstar: I spent about $325-350 on it. I don't have all my receipts handy, but I'm pretty sure my estimate is accurate. I decided to build one because the price tag on desks like this run into the thousands. I didn't have that much money to spend, so I decided to build it myself. This also...

    let me see your studio!

    I don't know if I would call mine a "studio" just yet. Let's say it's a work in progress. I built this desk myself to fit my Soundtracs Topaz 32-channel console. Right now, this is in my living room. Luckily for me, my house has 2 living rooms, or I should say an living room and a den. As...

    Toft ATB-32A console

    Has anybody used the ATB series? I am considering purchasing one for my studio as a step up. I've heard that the EQ is very comparable to the old Trident series 80B. They also have a mic pre in every channel, which is great for live tracking with lots of mics. Would love to hear feedback...

    Logic Templates

    Not sure if you can download templates, but you can certainly create your own templates and save them. I have 4 templates that I have saved with different configurations with my mixer, different virtual instruments, etc. It will definately save you a lot of time, instead of spending time with...

    I would be glad to. Send me a private message with your email, and I'll cut a snippet of the song and email it to you.

    spdif question

    You most likely have the RCA type of connection - it is the most common, as far as I know. Remember that S/PDIF is a digital 2-track output (as is AES/EBU). I use it on my mixer to record direct to disk on my final mix. The sound is better because it keeps the output from Logic/Pro Tools in...

    Acoustic guitar and singing: to use a metronome?

    "...the only problem is I have pauses in my songs" In that case, the metronome could screw up your timing in the pauses, if they aren't right on the beat. If you're pretty good at keeping time without it, I wouldn't use it.

    Recording to external questions

    It's better to record your sessions to the external hard drive. With a firewire connection, you will be ok as far as speed goes. I (and probably everyone else on here) have been guilty one time or the other of recording on to the computer, and not to an external hard drive. But it's really...

    sampled horns

    Hey Stu, Here are two techniques I used recently when using sampled horns: 1. The more realistic you can make them sound, the better, right? What I do is tune each horn off just a bit... say 5 to 10 cents one way or the other. It made a noticable difference to me. Why? Well, a true horn...

    Small studio help

    The 828 is nice if you can afford the extra price. They are the same sound-wise (both recording up to 192kHz due to their firewire connection). I think the 828 has 30 outputs and the Ultralite has 14, if I'm not mistaken. All really depends on how many simultaneous tracks you need to record...

    Small studio help

    Sounds like you're off to a good start. I also have a MacBook Pro and Logic Pro 8. Good choice on NI Komplete 5. Sounds like you just need some mics. If you go with the M-Audio 88-key MIDI controller, you'll certainly be on your way. I would definately get familiar with operating MIDI in...

    Who went to school for recording? Who hometaught themselves?

    "I went to Full Sail and graduated in September of '06. I absolutely loved it. Sure it was expensive and all that and I'll be in debt for pretty much forever but I really loved my time there. You really get what you put in to it." I'm a student at Full Sail now... 4 months from graduating. I...

    The "Jeff Lynne drum sound"

    Hey all, Have you ever noticed that all the music Jeff Lynne has produced has a similar sound on the drums. You could pretty much spot it a mile away... anybody have any idea on how he mics the drums, mixes, compresses, etc.? I did a forum search, but couldn't find much... Thanks, Jeremy

    what are all the settings i need to use to run magix studio 2005 on alesis multimx8?

    Help, I'm having the same problem... I am having a similar problem. I'm running the alesis multimix 16 (firewire) and Magix 2005 Audio Studio Deluxe. (i also used cubase, via the free cubase limited edition CD provided) when I bought the board. I'm trying to record separate tracks live...

    Martin

    It makes you appreciate it all the more when you work a crappy job to save for a Martin. My first Martin I got when I was 19 and like you, I worked pretty much all summer unloading trucks working overnight 3rd shift! The martin was in layaway. You can bet that I appreciated it when I finally...

    your review of the MXL 990

    Just got a pair of MXL 990 and MLX 991. (it comes in a little briefcase with the microphone molds cutaway in a styrophome fitting, quite a nice setup) They sell them together for $99 from Guitar Center in Pensacola, FL. I just did a test recording with them both --- LOVE it, love the sound...

    Acoustic Guitar Strings

    I used to use D'Addario Phosphor Bronze on my Martin acoustic. Switched to Elixir polyweb, now I use Elixir nanoweb medium gauge. It sounds great on a D-35. Too bad Guitar Center here in Pensacola quit selling them :(
