A midi keyboard is going to run the input of the sounds on to your computer sequencer.If you dont have a midi sound device then you won't have sounds.All GM(general midi)devices are compatable.For sequencing you will need cakewalk or cubase.My recommendation to you is to get an alesis qs6 used...

to use as a module you may want to check the midi section of the manual/ but because you have to load all the drums into the mpc first, you should use the mpc for drum programming. Quantizing just corrects the timing of the notes played to whatever time frame you are using 1/8, 1/8(3), 1/16 etc.

I too am having the same problem.You said you like techno so mabye look at the roland xp 30.Its about $950 and comes with the techno expansion included.It also has the session and orchestral expasnions + room for two more expansions.Totally expanded thats about 2000 patches(close to 2500).
