    So it was just christmas.

I got an awesome bottle of port for Christmas and a gift card to the local music store. Used the card to get a CAD GXL3000. Not the best, but cool and free. :)

What do we think about Samson C02 ?

I have a set that came with a Samson drum mic kit. I liked them pretty well, and they did what I wanted them to do...until one started popping and making noise. For those new to recording, they work well.

    Recording Fender Princeton Reverb amp

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Good advice here. While I no longer have my Princeton Reverb, I do have a Fender Champion 600 and a Peavey Classic 20 (tweed). You might be surprised at the cool and different tones certain pedals bring to some low wattage amps. While I love the familiar sounds you...

Thinking About an AT-4040 for my First Microphone

I have an AT-4040 as well. It's a great mic. Coupled with a good preamp, you should be able to get a great recording.

    Recording Fender Princeton Reverb amp

Dear seanppp, That silly ol' Princeton Reverb is a horrible amp. You don't need it. I will forward my address. You can send it to me to get it out of your way. :) I had one of those until I was in a tough spot and needed cash. I miss it dearly. (sigh) The info witzendoz gave you was almost...

    Recording Violin

Sorry to wait so long to respond. Family/holidays/work kind of piled up on me. No, I haven't used the mk 319 on violin yet. I intend to. There was a change of scheduling for the holidays. EVERYthing got turned sideways, with good & not-so-good results. GOOD: Got to see more of my family. Always...

Advice on tubes for Mic pre's

Wow. So young. So angry. ...still, it's an interesting question. Has anyone changed tubes in a starved-plate pre amp and improved the overall sound?

    Recording Violin

Noting that there were some different ideas given here... For SDC's (either in the room or directly above the instrument), I have a pair of MXL 993's (though I should only need one). For LDC's (in the room, might try 24-36 inches out front), I'm going to try the V67g that I got from you...

The new craze of ALL Behringer studios!!!!

Don't know 'bout no Behringer hatin'. I gots a few of their things at home. Useful stuff, for my application that is. I *can* vouch for the Focusrite Scarlet 8i6. Good interface. Easy to use.

    Recording Violin

Wow! Thanks, guys! I'd kind of discovered the over-the-shoulder method when experimenting last time, and hit a brick wall after that. Every idea here is great. Thank you SO much! -j

    Recording Violin

I've been looking on HR.com as well as other places for useful techniques on recording a violin. Seems like the mid-side approach has favorable results, but requires a microphone with a figure 8 polar pattern...something I don't have. Is there another method that could work well here?

Got my ISA One for a sweet deal and have NOT regretted it one bit. Really wishing I could afford an ISA428 or ISA828, or at least find another ISA One for low cost.

Shared Living Space - need to build something portable to absorb sound

I was testing some mics recently, getting ready to do some recording. I was in a hurry, and didn't think about how close I was to the wall & window where my desk normally sits. I ended up having some sound bouncing back off of the wall directly in front of the desk. You can here it in the vocal...

    FOR SALE/FOR TRADE: M-Audio ProFire 610

I honestly don't know where I would use it. My desktop unit has no FireWire port, and I'm using my Delta1010 on it currently. After beating my head against a wall repeatedly with the laptop, I gave up and bought a Focusrite Scarlet 8i6 maybe 4 or 5 months ago.
