I have an AT-4040 as well. It's a great mic. Coupled with a good preamp, you should be able to get a great recording.

I've been looking on HR.com as well as other places for useful techniques on recording a violin. Seems like the mid-side approach has favorable results, but requires a microphone with a figure 8 polar pattern...something I don't have. Is there another method that could work well here?

Got my ISA One for a sweet deal and have NOT regretted it one bit. Really wishing I could afford an ISA428 or ISA828, or at least find another ISA One for low cost.

I honestly don't know where I would use it. My desktop unit has no FireWire port, and I'm using my Delta1010 on it currently. After beating my head against a wall repeatedly with the laptop, I gave up and bought a Focusrite Scarlet 8i6 maybe 4 or 5 months ago.
