TASCAM lovers - get ready to drool

I wonder if he'll sell it at that price. Says it's being refurb'd... I would love to get my hands on one! Such a great looking board! I've never used one though, how does it sound? If the sound is 'decent' having the incredible flexibility would make it worth it for me. For me, I prefer the...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

You can. I've done it. PS-3700 has an extra power rail for the automation system and it's rated for 200Watts, instead of the 170 watts of PS-3500 but it will work just fine. The umbilical cord is the same.

8 Ch. RCA Snakes? What Brand?

My only problem with Hosa is that they color code their cables and, being color blind, I have a heck of time getting things wired properly. Little tape labels with numbers, and some help from friends made things a bit easier :)

    Soundtracs MX Story...

You already know the answer. With so much effort already poured into this board I can't imagine you really using those connectors. Get the good ones. You'll never have to worry about it again. If you keep the low quality ones just after you've forgotten all the steps you took to replace the...

When to use dbx on open reel multitracks?

Some reel to reel decks do allow some granularity as to which tracks have DBX and which don't. If your deck doesn't have a lot of options, such as 'All tracks get DBX' and 'No Tracks get DBX', you could consider turning off the DBX on your machine and sourcing some stand alone units to allow you...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

I am running PRO3700 v 1.01 and my Macintosh LC is currently run System 7.5.3. I tried to launch it on OS 9, System 8 and then, with the LC, System 6 and 7. I first tried it on a B&W G3 then a PowerMac 8500/120 and then I broke down and bought an LC on Ebay. The issue I was running into is that...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

stevieb, let me go over a few things and add some clarifying information I've come across since that post. The standard M3700 saves files to 3.5" Floppy disk. From reading the manual it says that the 3.5" floppy disk has to be formatted by the M3700 to be used and the file table used for the...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

I think it's pretty incredible that with the power of the internet I've manged to find these great boards, get help fixing them and hear from people who actually spend time on them. This is really amazing and I appreciate all the opinions and input. I look forward to forming my opinions and...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

I'm located in New Hampshire and would be willing to drop off the PSU and just pick it up fixed were there a local place that could do that. This part of the process is a step toward a fully working board that I hope will be trouble free. I am increasingly interested in older audio equipment...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

Sweetbeats: I will try swapping the umbilical. I've not done that. The parts mounted to the heat sink are different between the two supplies. I assume the parts perform the same function but are under rated. I'm not comfortable swapping them out (yet). Microslav, you and your voice of reason :)...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

Sadly, replacing the Voltage regulator chip had no effect. Fuse 2 is seeing exactly the same amount of power draw now that was with the old chip. I have 8 channels loaded in and the PSU is pulling 4.47A across the fuse. EXACTLY the same as before. Curiously, while F2 pulls 4.47A, F1 is pulling...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

I have the Macintosh LC wired up to the board with MIDI via an Opcode Midi-to-Serial interface and I can see fader moves happen in real time on the screen. Pretty cool! Happens a lot faster than I expected. I have the board short loaded with only 8 channels strips but the Mutes and EQ buttons...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

I suspect they go under the meter bridge.. I'll take a look around on mine to see if I can be any help. Honestly though, I wouldn't bother. Even if you use the balanced I/O the whole board internally is unbalanced so unless you have to run really long cables for some reason it's probably not...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

Quick update: Macintosh LC arrived today and is able to load the JL Cooper software. I'm going to rebuild the OS on the machine tomorrow but so far so good. I even found a NIC for it. Cool thing is the machine boots in about 5 seconds. Once the OS install is clean and things are working well...

    Tascam M3700 Story...

Good advice Sweetbeats! We did test all the resistors this past weekend and didn't see any trouble. I'm cautiously optimistic about the part on order. The caps are so big... they make me nervous. I know how to drain them but I may need to work up some confidence before replacing them. I plan to...

    Digi 002R or ... ?

If you wanted to get a 'Factory' version of the 003 that came with an additional set of plugins that the 002r you're looking at does not come with. I wouldn't choose a 003 over a 002 for hardware reasons.

    Digi 002R or ... ?

I have used the pres on the 002r, and I have it paired up with an ADA8000. Generally, I was using my Mackie Onyx board as the pres and recording via the direct outs to the interfaces but in mobile situations I have used the on board Pres. I type in past tense about the Onyx only because I'm...

What current mixers are like the Behringer MX3282A?

Just buy the current model of that mixer. Looks like it's the 'Behringer Eurodesk SX3282 32-Channel mixer' A little above your price in the 32 channel version but they have a 24 channel similar mixer for less then $550. Just goto Behringer's site and take a look at their offerings under 'Larger...
