    The Chair

Chairs are tough. The most awesomeness one is the Xchair. But that is stupid money. I got something around $300 from Office Max with folding arms. It's looking like a gamers chair with blue stripes, but it works. Has the folding up arms and comfortable...

Banning of certain music released for Facebook, Tik Tok and Instagram

Eh, I don't bother with that end if it. I agree with you though. But I just chose to delete any that make it about anything devisuve. It's hard sometimes. Lost a few close friends. But then, we're they? This is a better forum to vent. Lmao!

Banning of certain music released for Facebook, Tik Tok and Instagram

Ha! Yeah but it's also the connection hub for family and business. If you friended me there, you will never see anything about politics. I will not allow it on my page. I bullshit about that here! Lol! I would friend you in the same way I would any other friend, business partner, or family...

Freshen air in the drums studio

You are really dealing with a small room that you are just going to have to open it up and put in fresh air between takes. I'm not sure how you would be able to keep fresh air in there constantly, without having pre-planned it. I have a 23x13x9' high room that has similar issues. Even with...

    Referencing a Mix on a Sh*tty Speaker

I used to do that early on. Had a wall of multiple speakers from boom box ones, to high fidelity speakers. I'm sure the old school members recall seeing my 'wall of speakers'. In hindsight, it was in the end ridiculous... Problem was, they were all in the same room. The same room issues...

    Squire Strat $120 on Amazon

I have had good luck with cheap guitars. I have a cheap Dean that I bought from a member here that is as perfect as a $200 guitar can be. I do not remember his name...Was it you? LOL Maybe Scott Bax can give some further input. He is a luthier here that has some great skills and advice. @Scott...

    Best Mixing Advice

No experts here. Well, at least no Grammy winning producers... SO What I have found over the years has more to do with the type of music and the instruments recorded. I mean, I have the ability to 'fix' lots of recordings done elsewhere, but it is most simple when the tone/environment is...

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

Burn! LOL There has been a recent rise in Vinyl sales and production. I am proud to have a few I have been a part of producing here from my studio. It is just an old man thing though. Some of us miss that 'thing' that comes from playback on vinyl...

Does anyone slice up their vocal tracks and level match each syllable or note?

Age restricted? That is what I get when I try to hear it on YouTube. I get what Scott is saying though. Think it was a bit confused as to how much he was editing. I have had singers that needed much editing as far as lack of mic control or even particular way of singing. Sometimes 'ciip...

Does anyone slice up their vocal tracks and level match each syllable or note?

First off, screw tutorials that say there is an 'only' one way to do anything. There is no 'one' simple way to deal with any vocal. Ever. Especially vocalists that we may not feel that are 'vocalists'.. Depending on the type of vocal or whatever genre it is, it is always different. I...

Session Drummer Looking for Session Work!

Unfortunately, this is not a forum that allows advertisement for services. You can post a link in your 'signature' line, but not advertise here man. You can however become part of the community and give some advice or learn from others. I have likely collaborated on, mixed and mastered 20...

    Distortion

I would suggest try it without distortion on cymbals and the kick. Keep the low/high instrument drive more realistic and experiment on the mid range with distortion. The tune is cool, but it just kinda loses feel with so much in the distorted mosh. Best!

    Distortion

The worst part for me, is the distortion on the cymbals. Maybe try more sparingly distorting certain parts of the mix. So yeah, to your question. Too much...

    Recording issues

Hello Mak, It is tough to troubleshoot your issue. I would guess it could be that you haven't installed the ASIO driver software for the Alto, or haven't selected it in whatever DAW you are using. Oh shit, it looks like this unit uses the built in Windows audio drivers. That in itself is a bad...

Why aren't my vocals cutting through the mix?

I am a big fan of this Howard Benson Vocals Bundle plug-in if you have $99 to spend. Simple to use. All kinds of cool vocal chain things from compression/limiter/EQ de-esser and saturation, to widener, doubler, delay and even a button you can automate for quick 'LOFI' sound. It is my go to plug...

    Acoustic treatment advice

Foam is expensive and only helps with flutter echo to like 2k. Your most important issue after reflections is going to be the low end. You are basically almost screwed there for perfection, but things can be done to improve the space. Are you handy? Can you build a frame out of wood? Do...
