I use a delta 1010 and I get 6 pre's from my Yamaha MG 12/4 tapped inserts 1-4, channel 5 to aux1 panned hard left, channel 7 to aux2 panned hard right, the other two pre's are a dual channel M-Audio DMP3. Total of 8 channels, acceptable sound quality for an amateur home recordist, total cost...
You'll need to have recording software like cakewalk's Home Studio or Sonar or cubase etc., but to start try the freeware "Audacity". I think you can find it at hitsquad.com
These are pretty darn good, and healthy too.

Boingo-- Do you use the sounds you record as samples in projects? Nature sounds CDs to help you sleep? Just 'cuz it's pretty cool and fun?
Ipdelux-- That gives me an idea, I have a friend who's a good poet but kinda shy about reading, maybe if we recorded him he could get used to reading and...
Use your ears, take the boy to a large music store with a knowledgeable staff, tell them your price range and let him kick every kit they have that fit's your budget.
Hey Richie
What's wrong with Sile's post? At the begining of the thread part of the discussion was about the item to be purchased (M-Audio Studiophile BX5) as well as where to buy.
There must be more to it.
Sile...Thanks for your vote, I've had 'em almost a week, they're more than I had...
200!!!!????? Wow I'd have thought MUCH higher than that. I'll try that for mixing practice, but I'm pretty eure now it's a mic placement thing, it's only on one song, same drummer same style, but the mics were moving all over the studio.

But I hear equal recommendations of LDC Vs SDC for acoustic guitar.
From what I understand SDC mics give a more accurate response while LDC tend to add more coloration. But if coloration is a good thing on vox and some acoustics...
How do I get rid of excessive stick sound on the ride cymbal? Should I sweep through the upper freqs till I can notch it out? Would it be fiddling with the attack setting on the compressor?
thanks.
Hmmmmmmmmm, that 'aint right. They do take time to get going, some as long as four hours depending on room temp, they like to be about 22C (70-74F). But they should be good to go for up to 10 hours.
I've just placed my order at Lavalites.com. I decided to go with white lava in blue liquid feeling that this would be the best compliment to the soothing blue lights of our recently purchased BX5 monitors.
