wow, thanks! and i agree--i've been thinking that the whole thing needs a little more high end too. i wanna get various input before i start fixing things, but i'm definitely planning on brightening a touch. thanks again.
thanks man! it's a huge compliment for you to say "nice guitar work." you're a million times the guitarist i am, and it's not my strongest instrument by a long stretch.
i finished mixing my newest cd today, and my ears are burnt. i think i hear problems, but i have to step away for awhile and get some outside opinions.
also, i'm experimenting a little with something (i don't want to say what it is because if its being misused, it'll be obvious, and i want to...
cool, thanks man. as for the voltage rating--should i just match what's already in there? i'm starting to think that maybe i shouldn't be trying this until i learn a bit more about modding in general. i figured it would be a simple parts orering/desolder/solder job but maybe there's a lot more...
i think that's part of the issue...:(
you wouldn't happen to know what each cap looks like do you? at the link i provided, there are further links to before/after pics that show the new caps. maybe that helps to narrow it down?
recently another user sent me a link to an mxl 603 mod...

here they instruct the replacement of the .22uf caps w/ panasonic metal film caps from digikey. problem is, they don't specify whether those are metallized polyester, metallized...
oh, there's no question about this. i mean, you go to any of the major websites music stores, or crack open any catalog and you have endless variety to choose from. finding good stuff used is always a treasure hunt.
if you have any local drum shops or even a gc close by, those places will sell...
^^this^^
and i don't even need the digital output! i do know the burr-brown ics are the same (this is explicitly in the description), so i'm guessing the comp and eq isn't quite as nice, since the oneq is a single-channel version of the twinq and it's fairly pricey as well.
i may go the threeq...
not my style, but that's a really nice recording, and the guitar tone is just beautiful. nice work zaph.
one nit--i think the snare's too loud. other than that, sounds great.
hey supercreep!
what about the threeq? i've read some pretty glowing reviews of it both here and elsewhere. think it might help any? the twinq is way out of my range. :(
yeah dude, if i could borrow a couple things to audition that would be sweet, thanks! next time i'm at dave's let me know if it's cool to abscond with a couple things. much gratitude amigo.
lmao! i can't tell if you're joking about the akai or not, but i think it's hilarious! that damn akai is such a pain in my ass, but it works, so i spend money elsewhere. whenever i do upgrade, i'm going the computer route. i'm thinking of interfacing with a digital mixer to keep the same control...
i suppose it's possible i'm overloading the mic, but i didn't think so. i stand back from it a ways...and on those tracks you're hearing the perception 200 anyway, which has some outrageous spl rating (144 i think w/ pad engaged, which i do use)...
i've thought a lot of buying the sm7 or re20...
that, my friend, is the highly regarded mapex black panther premium 6.5" snare. a lot of ppl around here use it, and i absolutely LOVE that snare. i have a little eq applied to that track, but no reverb, no anything else. thanks for asking! :)
thanks so much for your kind words man. and sorry about the 2 minute cutoff. apparently soundclick is screwing me again. i changed my settings a long time ago to put the album up for free and stream full songs, but it's not happening for whatever reason. here, try this now. i assure you 'bother'...
