    best investment?: mic or monitors?

I would go for the monitors because I've heard bad things about the studio3's. But at the same time, I've never actually heard them. That MXL isn't bad at all for the price point. What mics were you looking at?

What's your technique for drum tracking

I don't have any experience with this in particular, but I would assume that he is doing it much as you described above, but he has the whole take there instead of punching in and out at a certain point. For example, I really liked the verse part of the second take, but messed up a bit on the...

    Alesis Photon 25

I got one of these for christmas, and for a basic midi controller, it fits the bill. Having said that, the MIDI ins and outs are shit; it is hard as hell just to get a cable plugged in and working. I am only using the usb though, so that doesn't really bother me to much.

    Old School Panning

i think my favorite stuff recorded like that was probably hendrix. It really seemed like they did it this way because it was "new" you know....like "look at what we can do now!" Like mentalattica said tho, it makes it easy for sampling. A lot of that stuff had the drums panned hard one way...

    Some Advice, Please....

sure does! :) I've got the Multimix USB8 also, I was just suggesting that he set up two MONO tracks in cakewalk and pan on the mixer to get it to record bass and guitar at the same time.

    Some Advice, Please....

I believe it can be done, although I've never used cakewalk. I am using cubase LE and do this all the time. You need to set up two mono tracks, one with the input set to 1 or Left and the other set to 2 or Right. Next pan your guitar hard left and your bass hard right. This sould take care of it.

    Some Advice, Please....

Actually he's only recording stereo. He's trying to mix the drums off the mixer to stereo and into the computer. Running a USB mutimix is kinda tough that way. I got one too. :) It would take a whole heckuva lot of listening while you're tracking the drums.

Members average number of mics and a list...

I have not had mine modded; I was planning on it a few years ago, when I first heard there was a mod, but times got tougher, and money went to food. I have since mostly forgotten about the 219 :(

Help with USB mixer and cubase

I have a usb mixer and frequently record guitar and bass at the same time, just not in stereo. Stereo IS two tracks. With my mixer I merely have to pan one hard left and one hard right, then setup cubase as telepaul described. TP (I mean no offense by that :) ) just forgot to say that you have...

    The Matress Trick Works!!

when I lived in a place where I could play drums, I always pointed the bass drum at the couch, and it made a huge difference in the recording if the couch wasn't there.

    Tracking drums with click track

as far as syncing it up w/ the click, just turn on the grid thingy, and line up your drum hits w/ the grid. or line them up w/ the click playing and do it my ear. (little of both helps) otherwise sounds like a good idea.

    Wha????

When I first set up my desk, I had the wireless router next to the left monitor, and it would make a clicking sound, even if the volume on the monitor was all the way down. Damn radio waves are EVERYWHERE!

    monitors and multimix

I would get adapters for the monitors, and plug them into the control room out. Then leave the "2-track to control room" button down, and run rca's from the 2track in directly to the two track out. This will get rid of your delay from the computer. If you do this, make sure you use the 2 track...

    help

Amen to that. I got a mutimix (it's only the usb 8) and really, it's best to just hook up your speakers and use it as your soundcard. I eventually got monitors, and I run everything that comes out of my computer from them.

    Multimix 8USB track problem

I don't know cakewalk at all, but I would check the inputs you have specified for the second track. Also, make sure you don't have the "2-track to mix" button down when trying to record, or it sends the output from the sound card back through the mix. Use the "2-track to control room" for...
