    Using a 4-track as a loop sampler

I'm thinking more and more that what you want is this: http://www.gibsonechoplex.com/ ever heard of David Torn? he uses one of these live and does exactly what you are talking about......lays down a pattern, loops it, then either plays over top or lays down more loops..... I just think that...

Recording Drums - Last...... Will this work?

I don't see why this can't be done as long as the drummer has good time and is able to play to a click... as long as everything is already 'synced' up to a midi drum track - you can just strip that out and drop in a click (which, to me (as a drummer), would be a bit easier to play over than a...

    A thought about monitors

I think the fact that Yorkville monitors aren't carried by the major players in the US music equip biz (sam ash, guitar center, musicians' friend, etc) has more to do with it than the quality of the monitors themselves...the other monitors that you mention seem to be much more widely distributed...

Which out of these is the best......

here's my own personal judgement on this...... as far as the kits go....I'm not too familiar with the quality/sound of all of those kits...I don't like Pearl's tom mounting hardware so I personall wouldn't go in that direction. I owned an 80's Tama Swingstar for years and thought that it was...

    Snare Tuning

the tuning bible may seem tedious & complex....but if you follow the method and have decent drums you're going to end up with a good sounding drum...key is, be patient! tuning is an art that takes a while to perfect (it's taken me 19 years - and I'm far from perfect!!).. personally, I don't...

    Hooking up monitors

try this...... - run the guitar cables from the 'control room out' L&R on your mixer to your L&R monitors I'm assuming that your soundcard has an 1/8inch speaker out jack - get yourself a 1/8inch to 1/4inch stereo adapter (can get this cheap at rat shack). also get a hold of a 1/4inch...

    Using a 4-track as a loop sampler

a couple of other ideas: the best idea - http://www.gibsonechoplex.com/ this is probably the best piece of equipment to achieve what you want....a bit pricey but it can do a whole lot o' things (will even let you play backwards live!!!) also - you can record/playback/loop samples with alot...

1970's Slingerland 5 Peice For Sale

a couple of questions/points.... - what exactly is 'a very big round vintage sound'?? can you define? - normally, 'very heavy duty hardware' consists of, at the least, double-braced stands - do you really, really think that anyone is stupid enough to pay $1000 for that kit? no offense, but...

    Neil's Actual Drum set

I was actually a bit surprised at how beat-up the kit looked...considering that it did go around the world a few times it shouldn't surprise me...but I've always read/heard that Neil's drum tech takes keeps his equipment in PRISTINE condition.... I would love to have that gong bass.. if I were...

    adding narration in Soundforge 6

unless you're recording with a stereo mic (or 2 at the same time)....the recording WILL be mono... you can cut&paste the single channel to a second channel if you really need stereo....

Making my own Bass Drum "Hole." Need Help!!

I highly recommend using one of the 'sticky holes' (that sounds a bit...oh forget it)... not only does it provide a good template for cutting the hole...but it provides support to the edge post-hole cutting to prevent any tearing, etc. if you're going to do it without the support - be...

    Delta 66

analog = analog line-ins (the 66 has 4 of 'em) s/pdif = digital ins (the 66 has 2 of 'em) - obviously, in order to utilize the digital ins you need something with digital out in the s/pdif format. something like an A/D converter or a preamp with digital outs would work (eg. one of the new ART...

    recording drums without hardware compressor/limiters

I record with a pair of NT3s and have them found them to be pretty 'hot'...maybe you want to back them off a bit? My solution is to run them through a BlueTube and use the -20db pad to contain the 'hotness' of the signal and be able to get decent gain without distortion.... just a thought

    First Drum Mix

some random thoughts.... first, could you tell us a bit how you recorded (what mics, how many, etc.) and what kind of EQ, effects you used? that could possibly help in understanding what's happening. anyway, here are my first thoughts... - the toms and bass drum sound almost like samples...
