the tube-pre wans't bad but it wasnt as god as the vtb-1 in the similiar price range. i like the Dmp3 because its 2 mic pres in one affordable unit. but the vtb-1 is a beast for bass line in. maybe ill get thr dmp3 then buy a vtb-1 in a bit
Looking for another mic pre (currently own a art studio mp, the cheapie)
my budget is 160 and these are the two im looking at:
-M-Audio DMP3
or
-Studio Projects Vtb-1
other suggestions?
I've used a Vtb-1 in the past and liked it a lot, and also owned a presnous tubepre and it wasn't bad...
hmm as far as preamps go un running the art studio mp (the cheapie) until my friend comes through with the studio projects pre amp.
also add the studio projects b-1 to stuff im looking at. but the apex 210 looks solid for 120
thanks moresound. i was really diggin the apex so i think ill of for one of those either the 205 or 210 (advice?), and perhaps a sdc for acoustics to go with my mxl.
yeah i haven't tried the mx much on an amp so i guess i should get on trying that. i was looking at a pair of the JM27's for about 180 for a matched pairt for acoustics. hmm.
thanks didnt know there was a mic forum, i havent been on in ages.
looking at 5 mics, would be cool to get some advice/reviews from people who know tem or have used them.
Mics im looking at:
Apex 205 Ribbon (100)
Apex 210 Ribbon (120)
Joe Meek JM47a (150)
Joe Meek JM27 (60)
MXL 3000 (150)
my current mis line up:
MXL v88
SM57x2
mainly looking for another mic...

the uca-202 is a great deal
i also used to own and use a Lexicon Alpha.
the lexicon is 80$ vs the behringers 30$.
id still pick the uca over the alpha for your needs.
i used to use a uca-202 to connect my behringer xenyx mixer to my laptop. for the price it worked pretty well, sounded clear and i liked it.
as far as craigslist goes, just be smart. i buy an sell gear on craigslist a fair bit and its a good deal. just make sure to tell someone where your going...
what are you outputting through, headphones, monitors, or computer speakers?
that could be the source of the problem, or perhaps toss on an expander which will help get rid of low level noise. (always helpful while recording as well, id reccomend looking into one).
thanks man, yeah ive since realized my piano parts are a bit out of sync (not on purpose). and no vocals added, just added spoken word, got an A so i cant complain.
thanks guys. yeah i am no means a piano player, just messing around with it. and i do agree its a simple tune a bit too simple for me even but i used it as the music for a radio commercial i was working on.
after listening a few times i can defiantly hear the boomy acoustic. gotta work on that
the firestudio is a bit cheaper than the profire. ive used a profire once with logic and it was pretty nice, i like the pres, were pretty warm. never used a firestudio (im a firepod owner).
ive used cubase and protools and wouldn't think protools learnng curve is that steep to be honest. it...
to my knowledge you shouldn't need a pre amp, i run a mlx v88 or 991 into a firepod and it can pick up acoustic well, granted i need the gain up a bit more than with vocals and such. maybe the m3 is a lower output than my mxl's im not sure.
