    XLR Patch bay: suggestion?

Thanks for your reply. I think versatility (XLR/TRS) is a good added value but not essential, as I won't likely be using them other than with XLR. But of course Neutrik connectors are a plus. I forgot to mention prices, 89 for the ART, about 200 for the Mamba.

Updating the studio to record "live"

It's about 6m x 3.5m, not huge but ok for 4 people. You can see a pic from my throne. There is a second "control" room (which isn't set up as one, i.e. no reverb control, etc.) that is ok for what we want to do. I am not looking into professional live studio recording. Just something you could...

Updating the studio to record "live"

A regular 5 pieces drum kit would take at least 8: kick, snare, 3 x toms, hihat, 2 x overhead. I have a 9 pieces drumset with percussions that takes 14. It's kick, kick, snare, 6 x toms, hihat, 2 x overhead, percussion, 2nd snare.

Updating the studio to record "live"

Hello all! I have a small home recording studio, where my drums is permanently mic'd. The mics signals go directly to another room into 2 x M-Audio Profire 2626, connected to a PC with ProTools. That is fine for *recording* songs multi-sessions: 14 slots are taken by the drums, 2 slots are left...

    XLR Patch bay: suggestion?

I am about to get an XLR Patch Bay (16/16 or 2x8/8). Any particular brand to suggest in your experience? I have looked at the 1. ART P16 2. Mamba 16C2C 3. and 4., Switchcraft and Connectronics seem to me to provide only panels but you need to complete them yourself. (I know many of you...

How to route cables for live studio - please advice

Actually, I have given this a second thought - what if I add a THIRD Profire 2626 and remove the mixer altogether? I could plug all the instruments into the sound cards, and still get the returns from them to feed into the Power Play (both the mixed signal AND the individual signals to be used...

How to route cables for live studio - please advice

Thanks Bobbsy, when I wrote patch bay I should have written "XLR patch bay" really. 2 8-channel units would do. I am not really into soldering, so I guess i would pass that option!

How to route cables for live studio - please advice

Excuse me, but what is your problem? My drums is miked permanently through 14 microphones. Two slots (more slots can be opened of course) are more than enough to record any stereo signal: the guitar player (bass player, singer, even a keyboard player) can record all guitars needed in the song...

    Drums & Dynamic processing

Hello, I would like to get an advice on what DP to get to record my drum set. I have a double bass drum + 6 toms kit, and including snare, HiHat and 2 overheads, I have a total of 12 mics. I plan to record these on 8 tracks, using 4 directs out and 4 subs (probably putting...

    Snakes comparison?

Hello, another little help related to cabling the home studio. I have browsed and got many info on snakes (still don't know if I'm using them, but...) which got me confused. Can someone provide a description of quality/rating for the following brand/type or address me to where to find it? -...

    Need HELP on cabling

Hello everyone, I am setting up a small recording stuio and I need to cable about 12 microphones. I have two separate rooms, one for the instruments (I play drums), and one for the equipment (mixer, etc.) Considering a distance from the plug of the mic to the "in" of the mixer of about 10...
