Your worst bit of kit !

It doesn't help that most of my gear has devolved to some point of barely working (amp inputs, bass 1/4" output, pedals breaking or getting "static-y"). Although the pick-ups on my BC RICH nj series guitar SUCK. HARD. No one I have ever met likes playing it. Ibanez guitars that are half the...

    Small Drum Machines

Stopped by the music store today- the MTR-3 isn't really all that small- sicne its soo square. we're talking a large pocket on cargo pants. The ZOOM RT-123 has a rectangular shape. Both are pretty much the same size. And they are only a little bit smaller than a 770,or 660, or 670 , etc.

    MR8 and n-track

Dewd- I don't know any Delphi- can you point me to some good links to get started? If so, we can put our heads together and add in ADL time calculations. PM me. Meanwhile, I'll start working on deciphering that standard.

    Distortion for Drummachine

If you have stereo outs on your drum machine, you can pan the kick and snare hard left, and everything else right. Then, only use your pedal on the left output. The above trick is also good for hi-low sounds- pan the kicks and toms left, plug the left into a bass amp, and pan the snares and...

    PC Gear Question

My MR8 has a built in Click track that it can send as MIDI time code. Everything stays in sync. If you do that transfer-shuffle game you just decribed, you don't even need to buy a new Compact Flash card for the MR8.

    multi-CD burners

How about a high-scool or junior high student getting paid $5 an hour? Depending upon your burner, they should churn out at least 6 cd's an hour (per computer). On 1 computer, that would be like, 17 hours of work (over the course of 3 days) or $85 per show. On 3 computers, that's 6 hours of...

    recording drums on MR-8 (options??)

Re: howdy http://www.dbpoweramp.com/ Get the dMC music converter- good stuff! Converts anything to anything else (*as long as you download the appropriate codec).

ADL info http://www.prosoundweb.com/recording/articles/mel/aes/aes_2.shtml just a quick link on what and ADL is good for and how it should work. http://www.aes.org/standards/b_pub/aes31-3-1999.pdf a not-so-quick link to the standard.

    PC Gear Question

That was my issue too. I tried using my wife's laptop (with its built in sound card- and it sucked. Given the latency anything recorded longer than 30 seconds was off rhythm. I thought about getting a USB sound card but the laptop is only 233mhz... I ended up getting a Fostex MR-8 digital...

    Wav to mp3?

I will again "Me too!" Satchanzaza. dBpowerAMP is a great tool. Get the codecs and you will be very happy.

    MP3 to WAVs

dBpowerAMP is AWESOME! Change MP3's to WAV's, WAV's to MP3s (I like to encode my mp3s at 64kbps Mono for my dinky little mp3 player- that gets me an hour of music on a 32 mb card!) and it can even convert to and from Apple's AAC format (just download more codecs) This is great for doing...

    Small Drum Machines

oh yeah- can't forget the DR 110! which has the "looks like graph paper" interface (my fav, btw). OR- http://www.synthmuseum.com/roland/roltr70701.html the 707, made famous by BIG BLACK. (though slightly larger) So I'm thinking if you want new- go for the ZOOM. If you want to comb e-bay, go...

    bass throug a guitar pod

SOmeone (a few days ago ) was saying how Peavy basses were approx $210 online everywhere - which is a pretty cheap price (for new). Also, I always loved Ibanez's low-end basses- at least 5-8 years ago you got a lot for your money. Of course, there is always the used market...

    Small Drum Machines

http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/ If you have a computer at work, use this pretty cool free drum program. You can coem up with multi-measure beats (pretty much songs!) that loop, you can trigger samples, its pretty cool. of course, if thats too big on your computer, there's always...

    MR8 and n-track

Given that I have experience in java (as opposed to c#, et al) and a java compiler, I'd vote for java. Java has a pretty bad-ass api as well (though I haven't programmed any sounds stuff, so I could be wrong) Other than that- my skillz are in C, Ada, and powerpc assembly (but we are NOT...

How to overdub with the MR-8?

Only through volume control. Hitting the red button on top (rec select) only turns rec select off. Wait, Now if you have sound on track 1, and you have track1 rec slected (blinking red) and you have the RECORD button blinking red, during playback you won't hear what is on track 1. Is that what...

How to overdub with the MR-8?

I don't think the MR8 has overdub- per se. You can't overdub on 1 track- what you can do is playback track1 while recording onto track 2. Additional Ideas: Bouncing tracks, Auto Punch In, and Part Editing. Onec you record track 1, 2, 3 and 4 you can bounce them together onto tracks 5 & 6... is...
