    Pre/Post Faders?

StarMan... What you are asking about is called a 'Signal Path'. It describes the path a signal takes thru a mixer. If you seek a diagram, google 'signal path mixer diagram'. The Mackie mixer books are good in explaining it.

Does Anyone Else Do This With Vocals?

Dewhitt... No disrespect to you, or anyone in replying in this thread, but, I think it's overkill. That said, we all know there are no rules. Do whatever you want, however you want. If you think it's important that your wave form have a more attractive appearance, that's your business...

    Computer cases

A gaming case would work fine. 2 intake 120mm fans in front, 1 120mm in back, plus a silent power supply with at least a 120mm fan will not be silent, but would be well under 20db at 4 ft. The loudest fans within you case is your CPU cooler. I'd recommend an Arctic Freezer Pro rev2. There...

Opinions wanted - upgrade from X-Fi music to M-Audio 2496

the 2496 is a fine card. Much better than anything from Creative. But you have only a stereo output. If you need a dedicated mono input to your sub, you're SOL. Options: get a sub with a cross over built in. get a cross over with a mono sub out

    Live Recording??

I've gotten many a good recording from a Zoom H4 on a tripod on top of my effect rack case, at the FOH, just using the the stereo mics on the Zoom. It also gives the guys in the band an idea of what my mixes sound like. Here's a couple examples of what they sound like, from 2 different...

    System Limitations

If you really wanna see a difference, upgrade to windows 7, and run it off of an SSD drive. Dual CPU's are not really needed either. Any i5 or i7 quad core will be more than fast enough, and it's save you some time, money and headaches.

Building a computer...for the first time.

Jeff... thats not true. If you buy a Intel processor, retail or EOM, it will NOT have any thermal compound on it. A person must know how to apply it. But there are tons of places to find out. I know this because in the last 8 years, I've purchased over 10 Intel CPU's for myself, family and...

What to keep, what to upgrade

Dump the soundblaster for an M Audio 2496($100) or Delta 1010($200). Other than that, your machine is still pretty current.

Anybody upgrade their HDD with the new solid state stuff?

I changed over to a Corsair Nova 60gb ssd on my daw and couldn't be happier. It's much, much quicker than a spinner, espeically when opening and using apps like SoundForge. All tracks are still kept on conventional HD's, but processing those tracks in my mixing app(N Tracks) is vastly...

    Help with Cables!

You have 8 mono (balanced)outputs on the Nady. You have 6 mono inputs(3 L-R stereo-unbalanced), and 2 mic/line(balanced) ins on the Delta. Convert two of the outputs on the Nady to use the line-ins on the Delta(as unbalanced). You have to change the six to unbalanced for the RCA's anyway. You...

    Windows 7 edition?

Just be sure your motherboard can boot from a PCIe slot. Many cannot. Here's some good reference: http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/127776-pcie-ssd.html

    Windows 7 edition?

+1 on the Home Premium. If you go 64bit, make sure all your plug-ins have 64bit versions. Otherwise, 32bit is more than acceptable. Also, 4gb of ram is best for either 32 or 64bit. If you really, really wanna fast PC, put your OS and applications on an SSD and use a spinner for storage.

    Helter Skelter tracks

The beatles had a right handed 6 string Fender precision bass, strung just like a guitar, so John and George could play bass when McCartney did leads, or played piano. John played bass on "Let it Be". (and if you listen closely to the album version, you can hear several places where they...
