would this make an engineers job harder?

it would be tough for me to recieve some sort of 1 track mix of a tune and try and add some stuff and remix it then hope it sounds cohesive. not impossible but a recording could suffer from doin it. if you had to go to another place to add stuff just take your tracks and have the engineer to...

    Equipment for recording rock bands

i used a ramsa console for years and liked alot more than some soundcrafts, tascams, mackies ive used. you can get a ramsa board and a tascam 1/2" 8 for pretty cheap. get a rack to put effects and a couple bays in so when you move most stuff is in one box. these days you could set up a workable...

I Like Everything in My Mix, But.........

yep double stuff up. big rythem guitars eqed a bit diff panned out. send an aux verb to a diff can and put this up the center. alot of times ill take a bass and run it through a comp and bring it back on a seperate channel as well. run your kick and snare through a buss sidechain with comp and...

Just recorded a bad band...I need tips on how to mix them

i agree with eddie on this one. might be best to show the band in glaring detail what they need to work on. if you can somehow turn the poorly played songs into somthing that sounds cohesive i dont think they will learn from their mistakes and in turn get better. i tend to think that this is...

Compensating for "Weak" or "Shaky" vocals

i often use doubling to smooth out a weak take. distortion and compression works well on the right kind of music. you could use somthing like a bulet mic which at times if the thin tone of it and some compression can impart a nice feel to an already shaky singer (makes the weak sound into its...

How Long Do You Spend On Your Mixes ?

i tend to use a 16 track. i spend about 4-5 hours on the first song. then most of my bsics should be in their holes some what. after that each song falls into place in a couple hours.

    an actual comparison

i think lazlo would be the perfect choice to do the comparisons. hes got a good tape deck and a pc system of comparible quality. id say if he could post a couple mp3s on here of say a full drum set... kick, snare, toms, overhead, and hat (because i think hat sounds god awfull in pc alot of...

    Mixing on Home stereo speakers?

i oftern use a pair of home speakers my parents bought me when i was a kid as an a/b with my nearfields. ive heard so many records on them over the last 20 years or so that i know their nuances pretty well. no matter what speakers you use the most important thing is getting to know them .

    Still Another Hand Made Mic...

actually a pretty neat looking mic. wonder how they sound

    Vocals are too clear

are the sounds really detracting from the quality of the take that much? are they louder than the actual singing? do the sounds leap out of the mix? a human breaths, a mouth makes sounds, a voice will crack at times... these are all part of the take as much as anything else. these things add...

    problem with louder singing

is problem due to a clip somewhere in the chain? if its sounds raspy it could be this. check you ad ins your soundcard ins. your master outs. if your loud all the time just back off the gain. if your only loud sometimes strap a comp over it and flatten it out some. its not the mic making the...

    an actual comparison

yeah there so many facets to this. i use priamrily tape and have to say tape sound will vary with sizes, speeds, inputs, bias, cleanliness, tension, pres. and at the same time digital tone will vary alot with diff pres, bit rate, sample rate, a/ds, mixing in box or back through a bazillion...
