I don't know what your budget is, however here are my 3 suggestions of mics that I have used for Hi Hats:
For $579 you can get an AKG C451 and that is the BEST mic I've used on Hats.
For $299 you can get a Shure KSM 137 and it's a wonderful mic for Hats which I own and use daily for that task...
I own and love two 512C in a lunchbox. I have tried a UA SOLO 610 on vocals and acoustic guitars but I prefer my API. Having said that, it would pretty much a decision based on taste as both are great Preamps.
Ok,
I live in Costa Rica where it's not easy to demo these kind of toys. I have used the 160A. I'm in the market to acquire a new compressor for the studio and have heard wonders about the PBC 6A. I've used the RNC and think pretty highly of it, but I'm looking for something "better". Since...
Well just to let you all know that I finally was able to open these files. I opened them in safe mode, which I didn't know existed until yesterday. To open a file in safe mode all you need to do is hold shift while clicking the file you want to open and voilá! I beleive the problem was with a...
I have worked with sonar for many years now. I currently run 7.02 producer. I have a couple of files that I did for an artist about a year ago or maybe more. I don't recall what plugins I used in the files and am not 100% sure that the same plugins are still installed in my computer since I...
Well I just got a 55SH and it sounds pretty damn good. It was bought in 93 and used very little after that. Then it sat in a room for many years and then I acquired it. I really like it and it does sound similar to the 57 which is good. I'm just figuring out where I'm going to use it in my...
Try a SD Condenser about 1 meter or so above and aimed at the violin. I would blend that with the DI signal. It all depends on the room you're going to be tracking in however. If the acoustics of the room aren't good, I would just use the DI.
Good luck.
Well, my 2 centavos on this issue:
Software has little to do with the actual source. It would be like working on MS Paint or Adobe Photoshop... yes one will do more things than the other to the image, but if you captured the image with a cheap 1 megapixel cam there's only so much you can do...
I use a Presonus faderport and Sonar 7 and to assign the fader to the master vol, there's an actuall key on the controller that switches between the tracks and the output (Master BUS etc).
Firewire 400 transfers data at 400 mbits/sec. USB 2.0 transfers data at 480 mbit/sec. Still I prefer Firewire over USB. Evidently speed is not the reason, but stability. Is there any other reason for choosing FW over USB?!
As far as the bass drum mics, the D112 and the 52 are standards in 90% of the studios. You can't go wrong with either one, and the main difference between them is a matter of taste. Kind of like "should I get the BMW or the Mercedes Benz?"
As far as OH microphones, there are MANY options to...
I have never had the pleasure of using NEVEs and I work in Sonar, but I'm inclined to think that I would do too. (take 2 neves and GB over an MBox and pt)
FWIW, I have tried the Focusrite Octopre and it was "ok" but not great. I've tried the Solo 610 and find it really good sounding for most things (it's great on kick and high pithced male vocals!) I would love to try the ME-1NV but I guess the point of my post is that, if you have to choose...
For now, disregard the sampling rate issue for it's not an issue; both of these interfaces sample at 44.1, 48, 82.2 or 96 kHz.
You will need a preamp with either one of there cards. You could do great with this one...
The best reverb is the one a room gives you. I have a pretty decently sized room and a relatively small anechoic booth in my home studio and reverb is the primary reason for having 2 recording environments. My big room is bright and the small one dead. I tend to add very little "extra" reverb...
You CAN NOT record stereo with only one microphone... UNLESS you own a stereo MIC, but those go into separate channels anyways. Go to the NEWBIE forum and start learning what a microphone is, what stereo is etc.
