Which Audio Interface / DAC when starting out with only monitors and 300 Ohm cans

I just got the Scarlett 2i4 which is the 2i2 but with 4 outputs, MIDI in and out, and and also these additional features: • 2 illuminating “PAD” buttons • MIDI activity LED indicator • “STEREO/MONO” switch for direct monitor • “HEADPHONE SOURCE” switch The 2i4 blasts my KRK KNS6400s off my head...

    Recording my live comedy

Yes, it does. But the plug is only in the accessory pack, along with some other useful goodies, some of which ought to be with the H2n itself, such as a windshield, a carry case, and a handle. The tripod could be useful, and some people can put the remote control and extension cable to good use...

    Recording my live comedy

It has a 1/8" TRS (stereo) output socket. It can also be used as a USB mic on Windows, and presumably on other OSes, but a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter straight into the sound desk is possibly your best bet. You'd best get the desk engineer's thoughts on this. Here are the H2n specs: H2n | ZOOM And the...

Has anyone here taken audio production courses from Berkelee or Full Sail online?

By the way, it was only a couple of months since I did the online course and it's already on again. So it seems that they repeat it quite frequently.

Has anyone here taken audio production courses from Berkelee or Full Sail online?

Coursera are currently running Berklee's Introduction to Music Production course. It started on Oct 13th and runs to Nov 24th so you won't be able to get full marks and a certificate, but if that's not a problem then just watch the video lectures and attempt the in-video quizzes, and maybe...

    Recording my live comedy

The Zoom H2n should do the job nicely, especially in Mid/Side mode where you can adjust the input level for the performance area then dial in how much volume you want to get from the sides and rear. I have one of these set to M/S on top of my Nikon D5100 when I shoot video; it gives me very good...

    general panning of instruments

Interesting that no one has mentioned mixing orchestral music, eg a movie backing track. I would have thought it might work best placing each instrument more or less where it would sit in the orchestra. But I wonder if composers of this kind of music even do this at all.

    The Coming Storm

Thanks for the feedback, everyone, and the advice about the Soundcloud link. I don't (yet) have a decent audio interface; still using the bulit-in one on the PC's motherboard together with a pair of not-very-good speakers and Sony MOR-V150 headphones. I first mixed it using the speakers then...

    The Coming Storm

My lastest piece, inspired by the recent global climate march and the thought, "What if we're already too late?" This is my first piece using Ableton Live. https://soundcloud.com/garryknight/the-coming-ltorm Edit How do you guys get your SoundCloud MP3s to embed in your posts...

    Alesis iO2 Express sample rate

Good suggestion, thanks. I'll keep an eye out while shopping around. The M-Audio M-Track 2 looks like it's what the Alesis unit was cloned from, so that might be in the running, too. I like the look of the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 but it doesn't have MIDI in/out, which would at least free up one...

    Alesis iO2 Express sample rate

Thanks. That's what I saw, too. I guess this guy must have had something odd going on (last paragraph): Easy Home Recording for Beginners: New Gear Review: Alesis io2 Express

    Alesis iO2 Express sample rate

I'm thinking of buying the iO2 Express but there's one thing I'm not sure of. The web site says, "Record up to 24-bit, 48 kHz audio into virtually any software". But I've heard that it does 48 kHz only, and not 44.1 kHz. Is this correct?
