    Firebox vs. Mbox

Yeah, if MIDI's not a problem and you want to go Pro Tools then try and seek out an old MBox - there should be a few still lurking around on some shop shelves. I just bought one for 200 quid and I'm eligible for the free upgrade to PT7. Nice. The Pres and analogue path in the old MBox is...

    Most "Well-Rounded" Soft Synth Sampler - SS2? ST2? Kontakt 2? Kompakt?

Well, after some research I see that the Mach 5 comes with 4GB of samples whilst Kontakt 2 comes with 14GB! It's supposed to be about 100 quid dearer, but I just found a place doing an offer of the whole sampler, plus another extra library, for 200 pounds!!! Needless to say, I'm...

    Protools Mpowered?

    Oops, my bad. :o

    Protools Mpowered?

No. An OMF (OMFi - Open Media Format Interchange) is session data, with tracks, audio files and, I think, some level/pan assignment contained in it. It was conceived as a way of transferring stuff between incompatible programs, and for Avid editors to export their rough audio edits to be...

    What's in your case?

I envy me too. WHERE IN THE BLAZES IS MY STUFF? I ORDERED IT 3 WEEKS AGO?!? :( <Calm, calm, you are calm> ;)

    Pro Tools 7

Actually, it's already compatible with M-Powered, but yes, PT7 will be as well. And anyone who bought M-powered, anyone, is automatically eligible for the free upgrade.

    Protools Mpowered?

M-Powered is basically identicle to LE, so if you like the software, it's only 200-odd quid. However, be warned that one of the few limitations of M-Powered is that there is no option of the DV Toolkit upgrade or Digibase, which is required for importing/exporting OMF files. Please check the...

    What's in your case?

I just ordered all my components of my computer and await them with glee. I've never built one before either and it took a good six months of research before I was happy with what I wanted. I'm building it for Pro Tools so I had to get the specs to be completely compatible with the Digidesign...

stupidest things you have ever heard during a session.

In a post-production session, concerning a piece of music. Producer: Hhhmmm, can we turn that sound upside down?

Keyboard maintanance - how do I fix?

Never mind. I contacted Roland and they phoned me back! ... In 20 minutes!!! The nice man at the other end gave me people in my area to get in contact with and everything. My first experience with tech support with Roland (didn't even know if I'd be eligible as I bought it...

Keyboard maintanance - how do I fix?

Salutations. An A-Flat key has broken on my Roland RS-9 keyboard (constantly depressed) - anyone have any idea how I can fix it/get it fixed? Cheers! the tortoise

    Most "Well-Rounded" Soft Synth Sampler - SS2? ST2? Kontakt 2? Kompakt?

I'd like to know what is the best soft sampler to invest in too. I'm using Pro Tools and need high quality piano, keys, orchestra, ethnic and other 'real' sounds. The synthy stuff and effects I can live without as I tend to use reason a lot. My limited knowledge is thus; Sampletank reeks. 'S...

Huge list of free VST Plugs

Wicked. Now what we need is experienced people to tell us which ones to stay clear of for whatever reason. (and which ones work best with FXPansion's VST-RTAS wrapper for me ;) )

Brand Name or Custom Built Computer?

Build it yourself, no question about it. I knew nothing about computers 8 months ago and after a shed load of research I've just ordered every component and will be building my very own AMD powerhouse DAW this week. It should be more powerful than a top-spec Mac or Intel machine at about a...

    digidesign MBOX recording interface

No. Only one piece of LE hardware can be used at any one time. I just bought an MBox 1 for £200, which is outstanding when you consider the software that comes with it. I'm also eligible for the upgrade to PT7 next month (loads more MIDI features) and the new Ignition Pack, which has a great...

    recording Backing Vocals, not easy...

Here's a good thread. Check out shan's posts. All I know is, those pop R'n'B guys tend to have Avalon Pre's and use at least 40 tracks just for the BVs, with all sorts of bussing techniques going on. Just don't ask me how. the tortoise

    Monitor decisions

-Find a store that has each pair in stock. -Ask them to set them up in a listening room right next to each other. -Take a CD of your material and some commercial stuff you know well. -Listen, at varying levels, to each carefully with a proper A/B comparison. -Buy your favourites. -Go home...

    T-Racks as seperate plug-ins

Loverly Jubberly. I too have heard wonderful things about this plug. How wonderful that I paid not a penny for it! :D (Also heard great stuff about that Blockfish - I'm getting that wrapper no matter what) Thanks, friends. the tortoise xxx

    T-Racks as seperate plug-ins

That there's a good bit of advice, the VST-RTAS wrapper would come in most useful. Hadn't thought of that, cheers. :) Incidentally, what do you mean by the T-Racks stuff 'coming out' on every project? Quality-wise? Do you know if it causes any problems in the CPU department?
