    Drummers.... C'mon tell the truth!!

tim - as I started to read your post (the part about rototoms)....I thought to myself - wonder if this guy likes rick calaluca (sp?) of watchtower - then I see further down that they are an influence!! I know that rick played a kit with simmons pads for a bit - but didn't he also have a...

    what's your favorite drum sound?

no offense, but maybe you should fully read the thread before you reply....the thread was specifically referring to recorded drum sounds that we liked - not generic 'r&b drum sounds' or 'hip-hop drum sounds' or even drummers - just recorded drum sounds. PEACE;)

    what's your favorite drum sound?

Re: SHADOW SHADOW SHADOW! I'm not sure how this is at all related to the topic... I like DJ Shadow, but, unless I don' know better, he is by no means a drummer. and to credit him for drum sounds from things that he sampled is a discredit to all those who originally put the efforts...

    what's your favorite drum sound?

agree to a point..... most of the billy martin drum sounds, with the exception of the latest record 'uninvisible', tend to be real natural, un-effected sounds....which tend to be right along the lines of what I like now, the drum sounds on 'uninvisible' I don't like nearly as much as those on...

    what's your favorite drum sound?

unfortunately, I was never able to see 'em live...I got into firehose right around the time of 'flyin' the flannel', when I was poor college student going to school 3+hrs. away from the closest firehose appearance....I've seen Watt a few times - all great shows - but man, oh man, do I wish that...

    what's your favorite drum sound?

clemens' drum sound is killer...particularly on G Love's first record I love george hurley!! though, I don't think that his drum sounds with the minuteman were anything to crow about - his drum sounds on firehose records were great (particularly 'from ohio' and 'flyin' the flannel') others...

What Coated Head Do You Use For Your Snare?

The 'ole Remo coated ambassador has been my standard for many years....however - as of late I've been experimenting a bit and currently have an Evans Coated Dry on my main snare (it has a built in muffling ring and small holes along the outside of the head)....I like the head alot - but only in...

    Which mics for drum overheads?

the NT5s are intriguing....the first reviews are starting to roll-in (either EQ or Electronic Musician this month had one) and what I've read has been favorable for these mics. I have a pair of NT3s and like them very much as drum overheads...also have a pair of ECM8000s which sound great as well

    Optical Mouse

Use the adapter that comes with most (I know one comes with the Microsoft optical mouse) and plug it into your regular mouse port the problem with optical mice/USB ports isn't as much about hogging an IRQ (as seems to be the popular opinion around here) - but rather the fact that an enabled USB...

    Presonus Blue Tube question

why are you running the bluetube into a mixer? are you submixing....cutting the mixer out of the audio chain may reduce some of the noise.. also - understand the bluetube's controls - you can take the tube completely out of the equation by turning the 'drive' down and only using the 'gain' for...

    Shure SM-48 to my soundcard.

should work as long as you use the 'mic' input on your soundcard....(assuming that is has one) - the mic input should have a builtin preamp that will probably sound like $hit, but it will work

    AKG240 headphones/repair?

I fired up my pair of AKG240 cans last night...and to my surprise the right speaker was not working at all.... I'm not sure what happened - the cans haven't been jolted/jostled or mishandled in any way. I purchase these cans in March 2001 - so they are no longer covered under the 1 year...

Worst commercial mix you've ever heard? MIX CRIMES

c'mon now.....that album is pure genius:D and, really, how can you call jim gilette's vocals bad?;) that album is mixed so that you can play it as loud as possible......read: NO BASS, it may even mention this in the liner notes one thing that the record still does is give me a good laugh...

Worst commercial mix you've ever heard? MIX CRIMES

how about 'OVERCOMPRESSION' Crimes? IMHO, the new U2 record is just about the most over-compressed thing that I have ever heard....with a close second coming to the 'A Perfect Circle' record... what ever happened to dyanamics????? not that the record is that powerful to begin with...but...

    Vinyl records

VIVA LA VINYL!!!! so a few months ago a friend of my wife brought her new 'young' boyfriend to our house (he is 22).... I had a few records (the vinyl variety) sitting out that I had been listening to recently....he looks at them and says 'what are those?' I'm still trying to...

    Drum Machine

you CAN load your own samples into Fruity Loops....so if you have some good sounding acoustic drum samples (which I think can be had on the 'net), you can load 'em in and sequence away fruity loops is pretty robust...the big drawback, in my opinion, is the inability to program in odd-time sigs

    Neil's Actual Drum set

huh???  does it have to be in good condition to be special? if, say, a jimi hendrix strat went up for sale and it was beat to shit....would it be any less special?? I think that it's special because Neil Peart toured with it for a couple of years and recorded a few great...

    two-track recording drums

I recorded drums like this for a good while prior to getting more than 2 inputs (and I did it alone most of the time!!).....look at it this way - you either spend time getting a good drum sound/mix prior to recording your tracks or you do it after... submixing to 2 tracks just forces you to be...
