    Tascam porta one playback issues

I can not really say what is happening without looking at the unit but I would say that it is possible that the play levels have not been set right and the record sensitivity is also messed up as well. When boneheads go in adjusting things they usually do not leave anything alone. You will need...

    Tascam 38

The power supply can be suffering from old caps or maybe the glue they used. I had a counter go out and it was missing the 24Vdc that went to it. Upon tracing it I found that the voltage was also missing from out of the power supply. This then was traced to a Transistor and Zener diode that had...

Tascam Drive belts - 112 cassette

I did a Tascam 112 Mk II the other day and the capstan belt was the FM8.0 but like I said before the oiling of the capstan bearing is a very important thing. This deck with the EG530KD-2B motor was giving me a wow and flutter with the AMSoil at .035% which is pretty good for a 50 cent type...

Yes, These can be a lot more than some people think they are. Did I tell you to put a sharpie line down the length of the motor so as to keep the magnets in line? When you do this on one side the motor when put together will turn the right way. When by chance you reverse the magnets the motor...

Tascam dp008 - SD Card Full message

We were using early release Marantz rack units and I found out when production would make a cut and then bring it to the air studio that it would not play. Some investigation indicated that there was a security setting that was on by default- what a stupid idea, so that it would not play in...

    odd thing happening....

These things called normalized jacks were even a pain in Broadcasting in that patch bays that were normalized need to be cleaned now and then- dust gets in everywhere and will cut a air chain signal out. Sometimes you need some rifle like brushes and some contact cleaner. Normally a squirt of D5...

Why so little love for 30IPS?

I have adjusted Tascam machines that were 30 IPS and there is no reason to use that much tape. Yes you can get response 40Hz to 30KHz plus or minus 1dB but I got a 15 IPS deck with SM900 to go to 50KHz inside plus or minus 2dB whats the point? Once you get past 20KHz the rest is all dream land...

Scored some Event 20/20 bas monitors! Are the 1/4” monitor outs of TASCAM M320b balanced?

From memory the only TRS that was in these was the effect sends. A monitor out is only feeding an amp so why the need for a balanced source? Balanced is a way oversold thing. You only need CMR cables when running super long runs and or if in the presence of a transmitter. Balanced might not help...

    TEAC 32-2B Manual needed

The 32-2 is a X10 1/2 track basically. If I need a good manual I usually go to Stereomanuals.com as they make the best reproductions. I have many here to serve as evidence and I did see and work from the originals. What do you need to know about the 32-2 or 32-2 B? I probably know something...

Buying a Multimeter as I learn how to maintain this stuff...

As I tell my trainees, Don't go buying all these fancy spectrum analyzers or distortion analyzers as the Teac Factory Service never had one either. They used middle of the road scopes and Meguro wow and flutter meters. Most service places use equipment with minimum cost. It is only the better...

Buying a Multimeter as I learn how to maintain this stuff...

As a guy who has worked on these for a long time a DVM for 50mV is not the right tool. You either need a Leader LMV181A or a scope like Rob has said. When I do bias traps on any deck I work on I use a Tek scope and see the rise and fall of the sine wave. I have done that for years and even the...

Adding three-prong cable to old reel to reels?

The only reason I put IEC sockets on older Teac decks is to get away from that hard to find two prong cable they sold. The IEC cables due to computers and broadcast equipment are everywhere and when I wire up a Teac with IEC I do NOT use the ground terminal as there is no reason to do that. The...

Do Tape head cleaner or rubber conditioner go bad?

The stuff Teac sold does not go bad but it might change color- it is more likely if you do what you are suppose to that you will use it up before it could change. The original color of the RC was Blue and it turned green due to UV exposure. In a light tight box it will still be Blue. It is only...

Otari Mx5050BQii 4 channel deck XLR to RCA problem :SOLVED:

Look you can go through all kinds of aggravation as a non-technical person dealing with this. I suggest as I have in other cases that you obtain a converter box that converts the signal both ways and has even been successful with the same model as this one from a previous customer that reported...

Joining the Tascam 388 party... am I crazy?

Hey not everyone like the same quality as I do and we all have different expectations. I am not a musician so I look at things with the repair type direction but if MDS36 does it for you and I would suggest that tape, then full speed ahead. That was what the Porta Studios were made for is to...

    Tascam 38

Probably a tension roller is touching the cap due to missing washer. If the motors make noise then they should make the noise in fast wind. I usually find the problem pretty fast and the motors do not fail all that often.

Tascam 488 Group 1 (tracks 1-5) not working

Usually in my experience when someone say the record groups are not working they mean the Tact switches are not arming the channel. They need to be changed out- new ones work great. Old ones can maybe be cleaned but it doe snot last long. So did you fix the problem yet?

Tascam dp008 - SD Card Full message

I usually have nothing to do with these digital devices but Jim does. Everyone was so convinced that these were way better than tape but I see nothing for trouble comments with them so I guess they are not all that great after all. In Professional Radio we abandoned Mini disc and went to SD...

    Tascam 38

The brake problem is most likely power supply or transistor driver. We had a drawer of solenoids at Teac when they closed down the same draw of solenoids was there and I don't think even one was used for all the model that there are. I imagine they threw them in the garbage. I would have taken...

    Tascam Portastudio

At the Tascam Forum there are guys who were the Lead Technician and very experienced Technician at a Factory Service facility as well as a Service Manager of the Montebello service center. We talk to each other and I am one who is training new Techs that can now work on equipment seeing that...
