This is my 1st cut at a set of cover and original songs I want to put together for an "album" of such songs. The concept for the whole collection is going to be simple, stripped down, acoustic songs done in my style. Only a few tracks to each song - guitar, voice, maybe a 2nd guitar or voice...

I recently bought the E-Mu Tracker Pre. I'm doing basic sing-songwriter recording, but wanted the high vocal quality, but also portability. I'll let y'all know how this soundcard runs once I get it.

I guess another option is to maintain my old copy of Cakewalk (if it works) on Vista. Dual boot with Ubuntu, and use Cakewalk on windows when neccessary. More of a stopgap until I figure it out better.

Hot Dog! it's been awhile since I needed some help on this type of thing. Here's my dilema/question. I'm finally updating my recording hardware and software, and getting rid of my dinosaur tower in favor of a laptop setup. I'm probably going to install Ubuntu and Ardour on the software side...

The mix as a whole could come up. The vocals could come up. Electric guitar panned left is a little loud. Bass could come up. Backup vocal should definately come up, but only in certain parts. Acoustic guitar could come down a hair. Nice tune.

I actually love the fizzy guitar - it is preference. Not sure if you're a Hounddog Taylor fan, but this fizzy type guitar is right out of his playbook. I'd consider adding some reverb on the vocals.

It's pretty good. The voice and guitar sound like they're in 2 totally different rooms - maybe try and make them more similar? I'd also consider adding more low end to the acoustic guitar.

I'd love to do drums on this, but no have no drums or fake drums/fruity loops abilities. If anyone wants to take a crack at it, I'd be all for it. Message me off list if interested. The pitchy voice...dangit, I was afriad of that as well. Will have to try some parts again, good to know...

zero - thanks for confirming my suspicions that the vocals were (as always) buried. That's seems like the tough thing when you're mixing you own music - your own tenativeness comes into play. grey - thanks, there are 4 guitars in there, panned different ways, plus a bass.

The mix is great. The vocals are the only thing I would work on. Something doesn't sound quite right with em. Maybe too loud, maybe not thick enough to match the rest of the mix. I would experiment with anything that might change the vocals in some way. Also, it it possible that it's not a...

The guitar on this is hot. Awesome, and sounds good in its recorded quality. The vocals do need work. Anyway to spruce up this guys voice would be a plus - reverb, effects, eq, doubled vocal, try anything that might work. The bass gets a little loud at times too - especially at the start of...

A couple things...first, I think the guitar is a little boomy, I do that all the time too. Second, I completely reject the idea that "guitar strumming gets old". And in referenec to this song, it's not true for me. What was the famous line?, something like, all you need is a guitar, 3 chords...

Pretty much the same as above. I think one of the problems the one guy had with the guitar at the beggining may be the effects. It's heavy on effects like something you'd hear a guitar god play. Maybe back off the effects (flanger or whatever) some to make them more authentic if that makes...

Cool. Has a Pete Seager feel to it, especially the vocals. The drums sound a little funny, like they're in the back of the room or something. The mix in general seems flat, like the whole this could be run through a mastering effect or something to make it more full. I'm not an expert though...

It's not that bad. The vocals are pitchy at times and a little too loud, vocals should probably be re-recorded if possible. The drums are off at times too. The high hat on the drums is dominating too. The guitars are decent, and I think the song is actually quite lovely in general as a song.
