    bulk picks?

this thread about expensive picks made me think to ask a question. www.musicyo.com used to have bulk picks that really weren't that bad for the very very cheap price, but sadly they don't anymore. does anyone buy bulk picks (that aren't weird shapes) anywhere else? if so where?

    No direct out on amp

use a mic! your behri mixer has preamps, so mic your amp...any dynamic mic will do such as a sm58, sm57 or some other lower quality mic if you are on a very low budget....you will get a better sound, i'm assuming you are using an electric guitar here in which case a DI box won't really help you

best bass combo for studio and potentially shows?

yeah, actually while peavey stuff is seriously durable, i have never really like the sound quality....but not too long ago i played with a bassist using some kind of Peavey TKO bass amp i think? (although i could be wrong, i don't really remember that well) with an average bass guitar and was...

    bad drumsound!

i'd say i'm fairly certain your preamps in the behringer plus your sound card are not giving you good quality (a soundblaster soundcard is not going to sound great for recording, and behringer isn't really known for great sounding preamps). also, is it the same drum set? if not (and i get the...

    Chords Over Bassline?

yup...i'm in a tonal theory class right now, and the composers didn't think about these rules they give us when they were writing, the rules were made up later to theorize why they did certain things...

i dont understand the concept of Fender

a agree whole heartedly...i get tired of people trashing fender. for the most part every fender thing i have owned has withstood abuse well, and the fender guitars i have owned played well according to their prices. why do you think guitarists such as eric clapton, john mayer (only to name two...

    Bass amp

I also say if you are doing this only for recording to go DI...My friend is in a band that just had a CD done by a producer who knew his stuff up in Nashville and they did the bass DI through some type of tube preamp...

Recording with Line 6 Pod XT Live

we use a POD XTLive at my church for practicality reasons, and I can get some ok stuff out of it. I did take it home for a week and played around with it recording wise and didn't like it very much at all. It's not that I can't get a usable sound, it's that I can get a much better sound using my...

    Torn between two mics....

if you want an example of what the 990 can do, go here http://people.clemson.edu/~astoebe/portfolio/songs/songs.html the vocals, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar (i miced the amps) were recorded with a 990 it is a very good, very versatile mic for a low budget in my opinion

    Versatile Guitar

i think nashville telecasters are fairly versatile, but maybe not as much as you need. If you are looking for totally different sounds, line 6 variax may be your best bet... edit: especially if you get the power nashville tele with the fishman bridge piezo

How many/much guitar effects do you use on a regular basis??

I couldn't find anything exactly like this and thought it could be interesting, and I'm talking about the majority of your playing (I realize that you may do things differently sometimes)... p/c

Best Combo Amp for Under $300?

you asked for advice....people gave it to you. maybe not in the most civil manner ever, but if you ask for it don't complain. and there has been alot of good advice given here. realize that while everybody on here may not be professionals (however there are some that are), most probably have a...

Best Combo Amp for Under $300?

for one thing, tube amps are louder with lower wattage....for another thing they sound better (this is opinion but for pure tone i think it's fair to say that those who know what they are talking about will always prefer a tube amp). there is way more to buying an amp than the wattage and the...

    vocal inconsistency

ok, this may not be a question you all can answer well, but it has been troubling me so i thought i'd throw it out there i am a college student and because of my schedule i don't have many opportunities to record. when i do i will set aside days to finish certain songs. the band part almost...

    Acoustics - Need Opinions

that's a really good point...hopefully if you are spending that much you have an idea of what you are looking for. and i agree that in that price range it is going to be opinion. i've said this before on here, but i have a taylor that is very bright that i love but my good friend who has a...

your review of the MXL 990

My opinion probably isn't too great because I am on a way low budget as a college student. I actually only own an sm58, sm57, a really old shure mic, and the 990.....I have tried all the mics on vocals, my acoustic, and my guitar cabinet in various positions, and I always end up using the 990. I...

    Sibiliance in Vocals

just wanted to add that i struggled a little with sibilance, and after trying some different distances, found a distance that was farther back that reduced it and i actually liked the sound better too......so distance could definitely help
